Twenty-nine letters, April-May 1896, discussing the proposed establishment of a Welsh (or Cymric) Institute as a meeting place for the Welsh in London. The letters are addressed to T. J. Evans as editor of the London Kelt (Celt Llundain), in which some were subsequently published.
The correspondents (listed on f. 59) include A. C. Humphreys-Owen (ff. 26-27), J. E. Morris (ff. 32-33), Sir Lewis Morris (ff. 34-35), Isambard Owen (ff. 36-37), J. Bryn Roberts (ff. 48-49), J. Herbert Roberts (f. 50), Sir John Williams (f. 55), W. Llewelyn Williams (ff. 56-58) and other prominent London Welshmen and Welsh MPs.

A notebook containing cuttings of an article by J[ohn] R[ead] Dore entitled 'Historical account of Welsh Bibles to the end of the eighteenth century' (ff. 5, 7, 9, 11, 13, 15, 17, 19, 20, 22, 24). The article was published in the journal The Bazaar, [1881].
A transcript of the dedication of the Welsh New Testament of 1567 by William Salesbury is included (ff. 9, 11).

Typescript, [1900x1903], of 'The Welsh Coast', an account by the Rev. John Morgan, rector of Llanilid and Llanharan, Glamorgan, of his childhood in Newport, Pembrokeshire, in the eighteen-thirties and -forties.
The volume contains reminiscences of incidents involving his friends, a sea voyage from Newport to Milford Haven (ff. 39-47), a shipwreck (ff. 107-111) and various stories and incidents relating to ghosts. There are also fictionalised depictions of the early history of the locality (ff. 81-98). There are a few manuscript annotations and corrections by the author in the text and on f. 111 verso. A covering letter, 1942, from the donor is included (f. i).

Punch's Pocket Book for 1861 belonging to the Rev. Henry Jones, Curate of Llanyblodwel, Shropshire, containing cash accounts (pp. 62-86) and brief diary entries noting burials, baptisms and other duties, and people visited (pp. 87-139).
The printed portions of the volume comprise an almanac with business information (pp. 1-61, 140) and prose, poetry and other items, with illustrations (pp. 141-192). The contents is listed on pp. xi, 140a. Jones was later Rector of Llanychan, Denbighshire.

Four letters, mostly in English, May-October 1831, May 1834, from John Jones (Tegid), Oxford, to Henry Jones, Merthyr Tydfil, mainly concerning Tegid's dispute with William Bruce Knight on the proposed reform of Welsh orthography (see W. B. Knight, Remarks, Historical and Philological, on the Welsh Language (Cardiff, 1830) and John Jones, Reply to the Rev. W. B. Knight's 'Remarks' on Welsh Orthography (Cardiff, 1831)).
Tegid quotes excerpts from letters of support received from Aneurin Owen (f. 1 verso), the Rev. Walter Cecil Davies (f. 2), George Phillips, BA, (f. 2) and Walter Davies (Gwallter Mechain) (f. 5). Also included are holograph poems, in Welsh (ff. 5 verso-6, 7, 10), including 'Merch ieuanc mewn darvodedigaeth', 1833 (f. 7), which was published in the Cambrian Quarterly Magazine and Celtic Repertory, 5 (1833), 56.

The first of three volumes (see also NLW MSS 23702-3D) of typescript and manuscript accounts by women from Wales of their experiences in the Second World War, selections from which were published in Parachutes and Petticoats: Welsh Women Writing on the Second World War, ed. by Leigh Verrill-Rhys and Deirdre Beddoe (Dinas Powys, 1992). The material was submitted in response to an appeal in 1991 by the publishers, Honno. A copy of the complete archive has been donated to the Imperial War Museum, London.

Nine letters, 1835-1850, to R. H. Grundy, printseller, of Manchester and Liverpool, from the artist David Cox (1783-1859), mostly relating to the latter's work.
The letters contain references to paintings, among them an oil painting of Harlech Castle, submitted for an exhibition at Liverpool (ff. 4-8), and sketches sold to R. H. Grundy (ff. 12, 15-16). A memorial card of David Cox, 1859 (f. 18), and a letter from his son, David Cox, 1870 (f. 19), are also included.

Tune book, [1833x1836], of Richard Edwards, probably Richard Owen Edwards, Penderlwyngoch, Gwnnws, Cardiganshire, containing hymn tunes by him and others, and notes in English and Welsh on the rudiments and instruction of music.

A diary, 1801-1802, containing an account of sermons heard by Robert Saunderson of Chester (later printer of Bala), at Boughton, Queen Street Chapel, and Handbridge, Chester, on Sundays, 4 January 1801-7 February 1802. Numerous references are made to the Sunday schools at Boughton, the Rossett, Dunham and Ince, and to the preaching of the Rev. Thomas Charles of Bala.

Press cuttings, typescript and manuscript notes and accounts, correspondence and printed material, 1894-1917, relating mainly to Aberystwyth County School and its headmaster, David Samuel, and to other Welsh county schools and education in Wales.
The material relating to Aberystwyth County School includes details of a court case, July 1903, involving David Samuel and Mary Isabel Guilbert, a pupil at the school. The remaining material includes typescript and manuscript notes and accounts [by C. M. Williams, Carmarthen], 1894-1914, relating to other county schools in Wales; correspondence, 1903-1917, including two telegrams, dated 30 July 1903, to C. M. Williams, a letter, 1903, to David Samuel from R. H. Guilbert and two letters, 1904, to C. M. Williams from J. Austin Jenkins, Cardiff; and a printed copy, dated May 1902, of a Board of Education report on education and school administration in Wales.

Rental, 1825-1836, of the Vaynor Park estate, Montgomeryshire, the property of Mrs Anna Charlotte Christiana Winder (widow of John Winder). Tipped in at f. 81 is a letter, [1836], to Mrs Winder relating to land belonging to the Vaynor estate. The letter is written on a printed pamphlet, [1836], of the Adult Orphan Institution, Regents Park, London.

Prescription book, 1892-1899, of D. Thomas, Chemists (Cardiff) Ltd, which includes names of patients and dates alongside the formulae. The front cover bears the inscription 'Register of Members' (presumably of the Pharmaceutical Society). Inserted at the beginning of the volume is a typescript letter, dated 8 March 1950, from D. Thomas, Chemists of Cardiff to the National Library of Wales and inserted at the back of the volume (ff. 89-90 verso) is a typescript letter, dated 10 July 1902, from the Pharmaceutical Society of Great Britain, with a printed copy of an extract from the London Gazette relating to new Society regulations passed, 5 June 1902, at Whitehall. Also included are medicinal and veterinary recipes inside the frontispiece and on f. i, together with rough memoranda on ff. 87 verso-88.

A volume, 1863, entitled Letters from Llangollen and based on a series of nineteen letters describing a tour in North Wales and which were published in the Sheffield Daily Telegraph in September 1863. Cuttings from the paper are interspersed with illustrative prints (mainly of churches, castles and other edifices in Wales and England), a few cuttings from other sources, and additional manuscript notes apparently by the author, John Holland.
There are references to the 'Ladies of Llangollen' (ff. 19-22), Dinas Brân (ff. 23-25 verso) and other local features of Llangollen. Pasted onto f. 38 is an envelope, postmarked at Sheffield, 12 September 1863, and addressed to John Holland at Upper Bangor, together with a photograph presumably originally enclosed in the envelope and which probably depicts Holland's correspondent.

Autograph letter, dated 1 September 1646, from William Foxwist, Recorder of St Albans, Hertfordshire, to his mother, Mrs Ellen Wynne, at Caernarfon, mainly containing instructions for the management of his estate in Caernarvonshire (ff. 1-2; text on f. 1 recto-verso).
Added in an eighteenth-century hand is a biographical note relating to Foxwist and his wife (f. 2). A few pencil annotations, [?late 19 cent.], have been added to the letter (f. 1 recto-verso), with a note in the same hand on the accompanying leaf (f. i).
