Extracts (partly with carbon copies) from printed sources, compiled by W. P. Elwy Jones of Cwmpadarn Council School and of Aberystwyth, towards a history of the parish of Llanbadarn Fawr, Cardiganshire, together with lists of dialect words and a few zoological notes. The volume was originally a duplicate letter book of the Aberystwyth National Union of Teachers' Conference, 1911, of which W. P. Elwy Jones was local secretary.

An autobiographical work entitled 'Quick March', written [in 1931] by Helen Thomas, and bearing corrections and paragraph marks, evidently in preparation for publication. The work appeared untitled as the seventeenth and final chapter of her second memoir, World Without End (London: Heinemann, 1931), pp. 181-194. This manuscript was claimed by the seller to have been owned by Vita Sackville-West, who reviewed World Without End (see Helen Thomas, Time & Again: Memoirs and Letters, ed. by Myfanwy Thomas (Manchester, 1978), p. 130).

Holograph music compositions, 1918-19 and undated, by George Stephen Evans, Aberystwyth and Llanilar, including a short anthem or introit, 'O Love the Lord', to words from Psalm 31; two version of a song, 'Solitude', to words by Henry Kirke White ('To my friend W. D. Owen'); a song, 'Doreen', to words by Marina Benbow; and a 'five fold Amen' for five voices.

An essay (27 pp.) on 'Cariad neu dosturi at bawb dynion, fel rhan hanfodol o wir grefydd' by 'Crefyddwr tosturiol', which was submitted for competition at Cwmorthin Slate Quarry, Blaenau Ffestiniog, 1876; and verses to [the Reverend] William Ellis, Brontyrnor, Maentwrog, by Hywell Hughes, 1874.

Essays by O. J. Hughes, Nantlle, Caernarvonshire, on 'Gostyngeiddrwydd', 'Dyledswydd yr Ysgol Sabbothol yn yngwyneb [sic] Peryglon Meddyliol yr Oes', and 'O'r Eifl i Enlli'; an essay by Miss A. Hughes, Nantlle, 1872-1873, on 'Hanes Cenedl Israel, o'i chychwyniad hyd ei hymraniad yn amser Rehoboam'; and adjudications by [the Reverend] Evan Jones, Caernarvon, on compositions submitted for competition at a literary festival ('Cyfarfod Llenyddol') held at Baladeulyn, 1877.

A printed copy of Tho. Gouge: A VVord to Sinners and a VVord to Saints (London, 1683), together with ten pages, at the beginning and at the end, of scriptural notes and aphorisms in an early 18th century hand.

Miles and Edwards, Oxford Street, London, 1843; [Edward Copleston], bishop of Llandaff, 1846 (declining support for a candidate at an election); Fitz Roy James Henry Somerset, 1st baron Raglan, 1853 (declining an invitation to dinner); Richard Henry Fitz Roy Somerset, 2nd baron Raglan, Great Malvern, 1865 (declining an invitation to dine); Lady Henrietta Anna Howard, countess dowager of Carnarvon, to Messrs. Hindley & Sons [1871] (an order for chintz for Pixton Park, Dulverton); Lady Mary Windsor Clive, St. Fagans Castle, Cardiff, to Messrs. Hindley [& Sons], 1872; Lady Elizabeth Herbert [wife of Sidney Herbert, 1st baron Herbert of Lea, P.C.], to Messrs. Hindley [& Sons], 1873; together with a certificate by William Cleaver, bishop of Chester [bishop of Bangor, 1800-06, and of St. Asaph, 1806-15], dated at Oxford, 1792, that John Marshall, clerk, was licensed to the curacy of Leek in Tunstall.

A mutilated bill book, 1840-1848, of Edward Rumsey Williams, solicitor, Caernarvon. Among the subjects to which the accounts refer are the engrossment of the agreement of tithe commutation for the parish of Llanbadrig, Anglesey, and the execution of conveyances, etc. of properties in Dolbenmaen, Llanfihangel y Pennant, Caernarvon, Bontnewydd, Llanbeblig (including a piece of ground for the building of a school), Pwllheli, and Llanfair is gaer, Caernarvonshire, Llandegfan, Anglesey, Flint, Flintshire, etc.

A typescript copy (8 pp.) of 'The Public Record of Alderman W. J. Parry, C.B.E. [of Bethesda, Caernarvonshire]', signed by Wm. Jno. Parry, 25 February, 1925; and 'Hanes fy Mywyd a'm Gwaith' by W. J. Parry, the introduction ('rhagdraeth') and chapters I-XXXII (pp. 1-149) being in the form of an offprint from Y Cronicl (Conwy), 1908-10, with copious revisions in the hand of the author, and chapters XXXIII-XL (65 pp.) being the transcript copy published in Cymru, 1923. Chapters I-XXXII were also published, with omissions and revisions, in Cymru, 1912-13, and an additional chapter appeared in Cymru, 1924.

Two holograph letters, 2-6 October, 1679, from Richd. Jones, Brecon, to Sir George Jeffreys, Recorder of London, and Jeffrey Jeffreys, Inner Temple (the yearly value of the estate of Sir John Jones in Wringstone, Wenvoe, and Michaellston le Pit, etc.), with a breviate of debts incurred upon the Fonmon estate; and a group of thirty-seven documents, 1656-1684 and undated, relating to encumbrances affecting the estate of Sir Robert Thomas of Llanvihangell, Glamorgan, including holograph letters from Sir Robert Thomas to Sir Robert Clayton and John Morrice, accounts, receipts, legal papers, etc.

Forty-one holograph letters (together with the opinion of W. Phillipps, Haverfordwest, and a statement of disbursements), 1665-1676, written by Geo[rge] Powell from Pembroke, etc., to John Morris in Corne hill and Augustine fryers, to Robert Clayton in Augustine fryers, and to Thomas Lemon, cashier to John Morris and Robert Clayton. The letters relate to the payment of bills of exchange and other business matters, and refer to 'your Concerne in my trust', accounts for 'your iron', and in particular to an action against John Chapland for the recovery of iron from Wexford seized at Pembroke. Also included are three holograph letters, 1674, from John Powell, Pembroke, nephew of George Powell, to Thomas Lemon, requesting support in procuring an assurance of George Powell's office of controller of customs in the port of Milford, and a receipt, [16]80, from John Powell, apothecary, to the Right Hon. Sir George Jeoffreys [1st baron Jeffreys of Wem, Lord Chancellor of England], by the hand of Hugh Matthews, for a debt of £5 due from Sir John Jones [of Fonmon Castle], late deceased.

Papers relating to Thomas Gee, Calvinistic Methodist minister, journalist and politician, of Denbigh, including a biography; extracts from her father's letters sent by Mrs. S. M. Matthews, Amlwch, to Mr. Jones [?T. Gwynn Jones], 1912; 'Adgofion am fy Anwyl Dad' [Thomas Gee] written in pencil by one of his children; correspondence, 1891, between Thomas Gee (copies of letters) and St. John Charlton, Cholmondeley, Malpas, Cheshire, concerning the tithe of Eglwys-Wen farm, which Thomas Gee held as tenant; reports of Sunday Schools in the Ruthin District, 1887-1888; extracts from the minute book of 'Cyfarfodydd Ysgolion Dosbarth Rhuthyn', 1882-1898, containing references to Thomas Gee; press cuttings relating to Thomas Gee's Education Scheme, 1896; notes on the Land Question; sermon notes; verses in memory of Thomas Gee, 1898; and a few printed items including a circular, February, 1893, containing Thomas Gee's suggestions for the Disendowment of the Church of England in Wales, and a copy of the Disestablishment Bill, 1895.

Three notebooks in the hand of Hugh Jones ('Erfyl') - (a) an account book containing board and lodging expenses, 1828-33, 1843-4, an account with the Reverend R. M. Bonnor, 1831-2, washing account, 1844, account of lessons given to 'Master Wm. Lowe', 1829-30, 1832, and 'Master Temple', undated, and a list of 'situations' held by 'Erfyl' during the period 1810-30; (b) a 'cywydd' in memory of Owen Jones ('Owain Myfyr')' and (c) transcripts of 'carolau', or parts of 'carolau', by Hugh Jones, Maesglasau ('H. J. Senr.'), Hugh Jones, Llangwm, Ellis Roberts ('y cowper'), William Edwards, Ysceifiog, Thomas Edwards ('Twm o'r Nant'), and others. Used as cover and end papers for the latter are two copies of a printed notice of a meeting of the Llanfyllin New Friendly Society, 1816.

Minute book, 1846-1847, of the Committee of Visitors appointed by the Court of Quarter Sessions for Glamorgan (under 8 & 9 Vict., c. 126, as amended by 9 & 10 Vict., c. 84) to erect and build a Lunatic Asylum for the county alone or to treat with any other county or counties for its erection. The volume also contains the following transcripts:- orders for the appointment of the committee at the Epiphany Sessions of 1846 and 1847; a letter, 14 October, 1847, from R. W. Lutwidge, secretary to the Commissioners in Lunacy, to Sir Denis Le Marchant, Home Office, and a letter, 16 October, 1847, from the latter to [Thomas Dalton], Clerk of the Peace for Glamorgan; and representations [1847] by the committee to Sir George Grey, Home Secretary.

A typescript copy of the Order Book of the Court of Quarter Sessions for Brecknockshire from 4 October, 1670, to 13 January, 1684/5, and records of licenses granted to agisters and inn-keepers at quarter and special sessions from 2 May, 1671 to 25 May, 1674, and of recognizances, indictments and presentments, 5 October, 1680. At the beginning of the volume, following an introductory note, is a list of maimed soldiers allowed and approved of, Michaelmas, 1675, and at the end are particulars of the dates and places of meeting of special sessions, 1683, and a copy of an inset in the original volume, described by the copyist as 'possibly ... a leaf from a Petty Sessions Record', 2 March, [16]73/4 - 13 May, 1674. This typescript copy was made at NLW in 1936.

Miscellanea, including incomplete adjudications by Owen Jones on essays on the antiquities of the vale of Conway ('Henafiaethau Dyffryn Conway'), the foundation of Maenan Abbey ('Sefydliad Mynachlog Maenan'), etc.; the Elementary Certificate of the Tonic Sol-fa College awarded to William Rowland Williams, 1889 (the signatures include that of David Jenkins, examiner); a typescript copy of a poem in Welsh on the secession of Edward Stephen ('Tanymarian') to the Tory Party in 1874, with an accompanying note by R. D. Roberts, Bethesda, Caernarvonshire, to the effect that the verses were printed on the back of a postcard addressed to W. J. Parry, Bethesda, in 1877; mounted cuttings from The North Wales Chronicle, 19 October, 1934, of a report by R. D. Roberts on 'Two Gold Half Nobles of Richard II ... found in Caernarvonshire' [the one at Llanfairfechan and the other at Gerlan, Bethesda], together with manuscript notes by the author; and a typescript copy of verses by A. S. Hamilton, Union Bay, British Columbia, entitled 'Little Dyvie' [i.e. David Lloyd George, O.M., M.P.], printed in a Canadian newspaper during the Great War (1914-1918).

A volume of hymn-tunes and anthems, mostly unattributed, but including compositions by Richard Mills and others.

A group of letters largely relating to Harry H. Davis of Pennsylvania, Consul of the United States of America at Cardiff, which include certificates and other material relating to Davis's diplomatic career. There is also some material relating to Ephraim Henry Davies of Barry, including a holograph letter, 1933, from J. Dyfnallt Owen.
