Scope and content
Deunydd yn ymwneud â'r frwydr ar ran y trigolion yn ystod hanner cyntaf y 1960au i achub Llangyndeyrn a phentrefi eraill Cwm Gwendraeth Fach rhag eu boddi gan Gorfforaeth Abertawe er mwyn creu cronfa ddŵr i ddiwallu anghenion cartrefol a diwydiannol Gorllewin Morgannwg. Casglwyd y deunydd gan y Parchedig William Merfyn Rees, ysgrifennydd Pwyllgor Amddiffyn Llangyndeyrn, a'i fab Hywel Gealy Rees, golygydd y gyfrol Sefyll yn y Bwlch: Brwydr Llangyndeyrn 1960-1965 (Y Lolfa, 2013) (gweler nodyn isod). Mae'r eitemau'n cynnwys dwy ffeil o dorion o'r wasg o'r 1960au yn olrhain hanes y frwydr, ynghyd â thorion mwy diweddar; llythyrau a anfonwyd at y Parchedig W. M. Rees yn cefnogi safiad trigolion Llangyndeyrn yn erbyn Corfforaeth Abertawe; deunydd yn ymwneud â dyddiadau a dathliadau nodedig yn hanes brwydr Llangyndeyrn; a chyfeiriadau at lyfrau a cherddi sy'n dathlu llwyddiant y frwydr. Sawl eitem wedi'u harnodi, yn ôl pob tebyg yn llaw Hywel Gealy Rees.
Yn atodol, ceir nodiadau printiedig yn manylu ar natur a lleoliad deunydd di-brint sy'n perthyn i'r casgliad ac sydd wedi'i drosglwyddo i adrannau eraill o LlGC; ynghyd â rhestr printiedig o ddyddiadau nodedig yn hanes brwydr Llangyndeyrn.
= Material relating to the struggle on the part of the residents of the village of Llangyndeyrn during the first half of the 1960s to save theirs and other communities in the Gwendraeth Valley from being drowned by Swansea Corporation in order to create a reservoir to meet the domestic and industrial needs of West Glamorgan. The material was collated by the Reverend William Merfyn Rees, secretary of the Llangyndeyrn Defence Committee, and his son, Hywel Gealy Rees, editor of the book Sefyll yn y Bwlch: Brwydr Llangyndeyrn 1960-1965 (Y Lolfa, 2013) (see note below). The items include two files containing 1960s press cuttings chronicling the Llangyndeyrn residents' struggle, together with more recent press cuttings; letters of support for the stand taken by Llangyndeyrn's residents against Swansea Corporation sent to Reverend W. M. Rees; material relating to notable dates, celebrations and anniversaries in the history of Llangyndeyrn's fight for justice; and references to books and poems commemorating the success of the fight. Several items are annotated, most likely in the hand of Hywel Gealy Rees.
Appended are printed notes detailing the nature and location of non-print material which forms part of this archive and which has been transferred to other departments within NLW; together with a printed list of notable dates in the history of Llangyndeyrn's fight for victory.

Ymgyrch unedig a llwyddiannus oedd 'brwydr Llangyndeyrn' ar ran trigolion Cwm Gwendraeth Fach yn sir Gaerfyrddin i rwystro Corfforaeth Abertawe rhag boddi eu dyffryn er mwyn creu cronfa ddŵr i gyflenwi anghenion cartrefol a diwydiannol Gorllewin Morgannwg. Ar flaen y gâd oedd y Parchedig W. M. Rees, gweinidog y Bedyddwyr yn Llangyndeyrn a Phontyberem, a benodwyd yn ysgrifennydd Pwyllgor Amddiffyn Llangyndeyrn, pwyllgor a sefydlwyd mewn cyfarfod cyhoeddus ar 23 Mawrth 1960. Parhaodd y frwydr am y pum mlynedd dilynol.
= Llangyndeyrn's 'fight for victory' was a unified and ultimately successful campaign by the inhabitants of the Gwendraeth Valley in Carmarthenshire to prevent Swansea Corporation from drowning their land in order to create a reservoir to supply the domestic and industrial needs of West Glamorgan. Amongst the vanguard was the Reverend W. M. Rees, Baptist minister at Llangyndeyrn and the nearby village of Pontyberem, who was appointed secretary of the Llangyndeyrn Defence Committee, a committee established in a public meeting on 23 March 1960. The fight would continue for the next five years.
Note
'Roedd y Parchedig William Merfyn Rees, brodor o Aberdâr, yn genedlaetholwr, yn heddychwr ac yn ymgyrchydd brwd, a oedd, yn ystod cyfnod y frwydr i achub ei gymuned, yn weinidog y Bedyddwyr yn Llangyndeyrn a Phontyberem. Ar glawr ôl ei gyfrol Sefyll yn y Bwlch: Brwydr Llangyndeyrn 1960-1965 (gol. Hywel Gealy Rees) (Y Lolfa, 2013), dywedir amdano: 'Dylanwadwyd arno gan ddulliau gwrthwynebu di-drais Gandhi a Martin Luther King ac felly roedd yn ddewis naturiol i fod yn Ysgrifennydd Pwyllgor Amddiffyn Llangyndeyrn'. Bu farw ym 1977.
= The Reverend William Merfyn Rees, a native of Aberdâr, was a nationalist, a pacifist and a staunch campaigner, and served as Baptist minister at Llangyndeyrn and the nearby village of Pontyberem during the period of the 'fight for victory'. On the back cover of his book Sefyll yn y Bwlch: Brwydr Llangyndeyrn 1960-1965 (ed. Hywel Gealy Rees) (Y Lolfa, 2013), it is said of him that 'he was influenced by the non-violent protest methods of Gandhi and Martin Luther King and was therefore a natural choice as secretary of the Llangyndeyrn Defence Committee' [translated]. He died in 1977.
Note
Addysgwyd Hywel Gealy Rees yng Ngholeg Prifysgol Cymru Abertawe. Bu'n gweithio fel Swyddog Gwybodaeth Cynorthwyol gyda'r BBC cyn ei benodi'n Bennaeth Gwybodaeth cyntaf Amgueddfa Genedlaethol Cymru. Mae'n fab i'r Parchedig W. M. Rees, ysgrifennydd Pwyllgor Amddiffyn Llangyndeyrn yn ystod cyfnod y frwydr i wrthwynebu cais Corfforaeth Abertawe i greu cronfa ddŵr yng Nghwm Gwendraeth Fach.
= Hywel Gealy Rees was educated at Swansea University College. He worked as Assistant Information Officer with the BBC before being appointed the National Museum of Wales' first Head of Information. He is the son of the Reverend W. M. Rees, who was secretary of the Llangyndeyrn Defence Committee during their successful battle against Swansea Corporation's bid to transform the Gwendraeth Valley into a reservoir.
