Note
Butetown History and Arts Centre is a historical archive, educational centre and art gallery founded in the 1980s by African American academic Glenn Jordan as a non-profiting organisation with the aim of involving the local population in promoting the area's rich multi-cultural history. Meetings and events were initially held at Butetown Community Centre before the project relocated to a building in the centre of Butetown in 1996. By 2005, the centre had amassed 450 hours of oral history and collected in the region of 3000 photographs. Today, it relies heavily on voluntary staff and on income from its museum shop.
