History

Several ancestors of the Williams Wynn family had held important positions at the Stuart court. Sir Richard Wynn of Gwydir served as treasurer to Queen Henrietta Maria from 1629. His brother, Henry, was steward of the Marshalsea and of the Palace Court of Westminster, 1637 and 1661, and solicitor-general to the Queen in 1639/40. Sir William Williams served as solicitor-general to James II in 1688 and 1692, and was King’s counsel in 1689. Various members of the family also represented the counties of North Wales and Shropshire in parliament.
