History

Sir Thomas Mansel Franklen (1840-1928), antiquary, was born in Swansea. He graduated from Oxford in 1861, and was called to the Bar from Lincoln's Inn in 1865. In 1878, he became Clerk of the Peace in Glamorgan, and in 1889, Clerk to the Glamorgan County Council. He amassed a collection of papers relating to the history of Glamorgan, including material collected by the Rev. John Montgomery Traherne, G. T. Clark and William Davies.
