History

The family, originally called Treherne, lived at Llettymawr, Llannon, Carmarthenshire. Morgan Thomas, 1726-1800, of Llettymawr, married Frances, only child and heiress of Henry Goring of Staffordshire in 1768. Their heir was their only child, Rees Goring-Thomas of Llannon and Tooting Lodge, Surrey, who died in 1821. He was succeeded by his eldest son, Rees Goring-Thomas, 1801-1863, of Gellywernen. During the late 1820s a new house was built at Gellywernen, which was subsequently attacked during the Rebecca riots in 1843. He was succeeded by his eldest son and namesake of Plas Llannon who died in 1887. His eldest son and heir son Rhys Goring-Thomas (b. 1864) sold Plas Llannon in 1913. He was succeeded by his second son, Captain Gilbert Esdaile Foy Goring-Thomas (b. 1898) of Gellywernen.
