Broadcast script

The file contains two typescript copies (one incomplete) of the introduction to the BBC broadcast of 'The Dream of Private Clitus', and the last page of the poem with corrections by David Jones.

Broadcast script

The file contains material concerning 'The Dream of Private Clitus', consisting of a manuscript introductory note to a reading by David Jones of the work, two manuscript drafts of the introductory note to the printed text (f. 3 dated 3 September 1963), page proofs of the introductory note and the beginning of the text (pp. numbered 79 and 80) and a manuscript note by David Jones explaining the typographical layout of the work, dated 10 Dec. 1961. There are also what appear to be drafts of a letter or letters to Louis Bonnerot. In these drafts David Jones explains various words and passages in the text of 'The Dream of Private Clitus'.

Broadcast scripts

The file comprises scripts of broadcast talks concerning various matters of interest to David Jones. One script (of a talk by Erich Heller on 'Oswald Spengler and the Predicament of the Historical Imagination') has a covering letter from the producer, Anna Kallin, dated 19 June 1951, suggesting that David Jones give a talk on Spengler.

Broadcast scripts

The file contains four complete copies of the BBC script of 'The Dream of Private Clitus' but without Saunders Lewis's introduction. Unlike LS3/8-9 they do not contain any manuscript corrections or instructions as to how the poem is to be read.

Two typescript copies of BBC broadcast scripts of The Anathemata, adapted for broadcasting and produced by Douglas Cleverdon, 5 May 1953. Both scripts are identical except for occasional annotations and a few pages missing in one script.

David Jones, Private 22579 Royal Welsh Fusiliers, Ireland, 1918; David Jones illustrations dated 1926 to a poem by Shane Leslie entitled 'Fleet Street ', printed by the Curwen press; and a colour copy of lettering by David Jones for a bookplate 'Quemadmodum Desiderata Cervus... Catholic Mass in Bangor

The file comprises manuscript drafts of a writing by David Jones arising from a report that the Catholics of Bangor, co. Caernarfon, had been preparing for the change from Latin to English of parts of Low Mass (1964). For earlier drafts of this writing see CF2/3. Folio 23 is dated 'Harrow, March 1966'.

The file comprises official documents relating to 22579 Pte W. David Jones, including certificate of identity, 1918, photograph of the battalion, enlistment card dated January 2nd 1915, with a summary of intelligence for the 113th infantry brigade, 1918.

Changes in the Coronation Service

The file comprises a manuscript draft of a letter, in David Jones's hand, "Letter to The Tablet, June 1953, part of a correspondence headed 'Changes in the Coronation Service'". This draft is close to the published text (see Epoch and Artist, pp. 49-50).

The file comprises manuscript drafts (paginated 2-4 and 8) of a writing by David Jones. This writing appears to centre upon a consideration of the significance of the Roman Catholic service of Tenebrae.

Cheques

The file comprises a box containing approximately 1000 cheques written by David Jones, 1938-1969, and 36 used cheque books and paying in books, 1932-1970 (mainly 1957-1970).

Chinese prints

The file comprises a map of Poo-Tung presented to Mr James Jones, David Jones' father, Chinese lettering, and various pencil sketches and drawings of Chinese scenes, some made by a student of Ningpo [Missionary] College.

The file comprises fifteen letters and a telegram from Clarissa Eden, Lady Avon, 1948-1966, mostly 1956-1958, with a sketch by David Jones for an inscription for her, some newspaper cuttings with photographs of her, and a draft letter to her from David Jones, 1956.
