Praça do Comércio in which stands a statue of Dom Jose I on horseback mounted on an ornamental plinth. Behind the statue is an ornate arched gateway flanked by public buildings. On top of the arch, Glory stands a full 23 feet high and holds laurels over Valor and Genius. The inscription reads: VIRTUTIBUS MAIORUM UT SIT OMNIBUS DOCUMENTO. P.P.D.(see AJS 381 for a superior image)

Praça do Comércio in which stands a statue of Dom Jose I on horseback. This is mounted on a highly ornamental plinth. Behind the statue is an ornate arched gateway flanked by public buildings. On top of the arch, Glory stands 23 feet high and holds laurels over Valor and Genius. The inscription reads: VIRTUTIBUS MAIORUM UT SIT OMNIBUS DOCUMENTO. P.P.D.
