General Election, 2005

The series consists of election addresses and leaflets circulated in the Welsh constituencies by the political parties during the 2005 General Election campaign, manifestos and other circular publications produced by the party organisations nationally, and some press cuttings.

Press cuttings

Press cuttings, 1999-2010 (with gaps), relating to the politician Alun Michael. The cuttings mainly relate to Welsh Assembly matters and Michael’s political career, including his roles as Welsh Assembly First Secretary, his resignation, and the subsequent appointment of Rhodri Morgan; as MS for the Mid and West Wales region; as MP for Cardiff South and Penarth; and as Minister of State for Rural Affairs. The file also includes some campaign material for the 2005 UK General Election.

Press cuttings, 2000-2006 (with gaps), relating to the politician Peter Law, consisting mainly of cuttings relating to biographical information and Law’s political career, including his roles as MP and MS for Blaenau Gwent constituency; cuttings relating to other political and Welsh Assembly matters such as the 2005 UK General Election; and cuttings conveying tributes and obituaries following Law’s death in 2006, including those relating to the subsequent by-elections for Blaenau Gwent’s MS and MP seats. The file also contains a small amount of material relating to Tricia Law’s election as MS for Blaenau Gwent in 2006.
