Forty-seven volumes of 'notae' or abstracts and extracts, principally of Monmouthshire interest, compiled from original records in both public and private possession. With the exception of letters and some insets they are all in the autograph of Bradney. Miscellaneous documents, [early 18 cent.]-1761, relating to Monmouthshire, probably collected by Major H. J. Lloyd-Johnes; and related papers, [mid 20 cent.].
They comprise a letter, [early 18 cent.], from Thomas Edwards of Monmouth to William Blathwayt, politician, at Whitehall, concerning the nomination of William Blethyn as sheriff of Monmouthshire (ff. 180-181), with a letter, 28 January 1955, from Myers & Co. (Booksellers), London, offering the letter for sale to H. J. Lloyd-Johnes (f. 182); a licence, 29 December 1761, sent to the Governors of Queen Anne's Bounty, granted by John Ewer, bishop of Llandaff, to John Williams, BA, to perform the office of curate at Penterry, Monmouthshire (ff. 183-184); and a quitclaim, 2 May 1711, by Robert Bayley of St Pierre, Monmouthshire, to Henry Scudamore of Treworgan, Herefordshire (f. 185), with a transcript, [mid 20 cent.] (f. 186).

Estate records of the Vaughan family of Courtfield, Welsh Bicknor, Herefordshire, and associated families of Vaughan of Ruardean, Gloucestershire, and Weld of Lulworth, Dorset, 13 cent.-20 cent.; almost all title deeds relating to lands chiefly in Monmouthshire, Radnorshire, Herefordshire, and Gloucestershire,[temp Edward I]-1916; and manorial records, 1454-1792. The Vaughans were notable adherents to Catholics and the archive includes acquittances to Joan Vaughan of Ruardean, a Catholic recusant, for the payment of fines, 1620-1644, and papal licences and instruments of possession of Cardinal Herbert Vaughan, Archbishop of Westminster.
