Welsh folk-songs

A collection of twenty-eight folk-songs, mostly with words, noted by Mrs [later Lady] Ruth Herbert Lewis, collected in Flintshire and Denbighshire in 1910-1911. Thirteen of the songs are published in her Folk-songs collected in Flintshire and the Vale of Clwyd (Wrexham, 1914) or Journal of the Welsh Folk-song Society, 1 (1909-12) and 2 (1914-25).

Deeds relating mainly to Carmarthenshire, 1531-1857, and to other Welsh counties including Brecknockshire, 1655-1800, Cardiganshire, 1628-1819, Glamorgan, 1673-1792, Monmouthshire, 1636-1795, Montgomeryshire, 1675-1702, Pembrokeshire, 1724-1811, and Radnorshire, 1689-1773. There is no apparent connection between the deeds.

The first of three volumes (see also NLW MSS 23702-3D) of typescript and manuscript accounts by women from Wales of their experiences in the Second World War, selections from which were published in Parachutes and Petticoats: Welsh Women Writing on the Second World War, ed. by Leigh Verrill-Rhys and Deirdre Beddoe (Dinas Powys, 1992). The material was submitted in response to an appeal in 1991 by the publishers, Honno. A copy of the complete archive has been donated to the Imperial War Museum, London.
