A closer view of a dilapidated barn near Trevelin. This is the barn off Avenida John D Evans, Trevelin photographed in 4689/196 & 4689/198. It is also the barn mentioned in 'A Wider Sky' (Gomer, 1991) on page 194 "...and so I continued until, one day, I drew onto a canvas an old wooden barn that stood off the Avenida John D Evans. I started to paint and as I did the colours became grey and dull. It was my forty-fifth canvas and I knew the spell was broken. I never painted another picture of Patagonia."
A dirt road with poplars lining the right hand side heads towards a small settlement behind which are mountains. Slide 4689/292 appears to be taken from the same viewpoint but pointing in the opposite direction.
A view (underexposed) looking up the trunk of a Fitzroia tree (Fitzroya cupressoides). On page 180 of 'A Wider Sky (Gomer, 1991) KW mentions the Fitzroya trees he viewed at Lago Menendez in the 'Parque Nacional Los Alerces'. These may well be the same trees.
A weathered wooden fence on the left of the image draws the eye to Lago Verde and the mountains in the distance. KW is believed to have visited this area on December 23rd 1968 - see p 179-180 of 'A Wider Sky' (Gomer, 1991). Slides 4690/19-20 & 22 were taken from the same approximate location.
