Accounts of Sir Mark Wood with Hicks of Grays Inn, later Hicks & Dean and Hicks & Marris, relating to the sale (1815-1817) of small properties in Llandaf, co. Glam., to Rev. Powell Edwards, 29 Dec. 1818 (A 2/1), the assignment of three terms of 600, 700 and 800 years in properties in Magor and Undy, co. Mon., to Daniel Baker, 13 April 1822 (A 2/2), the proposed assignment (1822) of terms of 600, 700 and 800 years in properties in Llandaf, belonging to Nicholl Wood, 24 June 1826 (A 2/3), and the proposed assignment (1826-1829) of three terms [?of 600, 700 and 800 years] in property in Llandaf to Charles Stephens in trust for Sir William Curtis and others, 17 Jan. 1832 (A 2/4).

Sir Edward Morgan of Llantarnam, co. Mon., bart,

Probate of the will (dated 20 July 1650) of Sir Edward Morgan of Llantarnam, co. Mon., bart. He commends his body to be buried with his ancestors in the church of Llantarnam. Property includes the manor of Pen-rhys, co. Glam., the farms of Llandderfel and Gellylace, [both in p. Llanfihangel Llantarnam], and leases of the tithes of Goldcliff, Caerleon and Llanfrechfa, [all co. Mon.]. Family includes Mary his wife, Edward, William, James and Henry, his eldest, second, third and fourth sons; also his sister Wenefrid and brother Henry Morgan. He appoints his wife and his eldest son as executors. He recites that when a prisoner at Hereford, Colonel John Birch extorted bonds from him to lie quietly at home, not to act against Parliament, and to appear to make his composition on 16 days' notice. However, he no sooner arrived home than he was summoned to Gloucester, where he remained a prisoner for more than two years, and is still on parole. He disclaims the bonds as they were extorted from him while a prisoner, against the common law.

Settlement by (1) Edward Morgan of Llantarnam, co. Mon., esq., on (2) William Morgan of Llanddewi Fach, co. Mon., gent., and Antony Turbervile of Pen-llin, co. Glam., esq. (trustees), being a demise for 1,000 years by 1 to 2 of the grange called Landerville [=Llandderfel, p. Llanfihangel Llantarnam], a farm called Gellylace, and the tithes of 1 in Machen and Bedwellty, all co. Mon., and a covenant by William Morgan to assign to John Talbot, gent., now living with 1, his interest in a fine dated 5 Aug. 1634 levied by 1 at the Great Sessions at Cardiff, of a demise for 99 years to George Scudamore, gent., since dec., and the said William Morgan, in trust for 1, of the manor of Pen-rhys, 50 m's, 40 cottages etc. (2,400a. in all) in Llanwynne, Ystradyfodwg and Aberdare, co. Glam., to be re-assigned by the said John Talbot to 2, all in trust for 1 for life, and afterwards in trust as he shall direct in writing, or in default upon trust for such of his daughters and younger sons as shall not be preferred in marriage in his lifetime, share and share alike.

Marshfield and Peterstone, and a tmt and land (11a.) in the tenure of William Morris, p. Rumney, all in co. Mon. (tenants and rents given), to the use that 2 shall have an annuity of £400 for life, and to the further use of 6 for a term of 1,000 years from the death of the said Charles Van the younger in trust to the use of 1 and his heirs, for raising by mortgage or otherwise £4,000 (a sum provided in D 2/16 for the daughters and younger sons of the said Charles Van the younger) for the portions of the said Catherine Salusbury and (4) Jane Van and Charlotte Van of the Friars, spinsters (which Catherine Salusbury, Jane Van and Charlotte Van are the only daughters of the said Charles Van by the said Catherine his wife). The other parties are (3) Robert Salusbury of Cotton Hall, co. Denb., esq., and Catherine Salusbury his wife, and (6) Sir Charles Gould of Whitehall, kt, and Charles Morgan of Tredegar. co. Mon., and John Morgan of Therra, co. Brec., esqs (which Charles Morgan and John Morgan are the executors of the will of the said Thomas Morgan). Covenant by 1 to 5 to surrender within six moths the copyhold m's and lands in the tenure of John Lloyd (16a.) near Lisweny Common, Thomas Morgan (30a.) in Lisweny, and Thomas Watkins (13a.), all in p.
