Somerset, DD, for a term of 500 years in trust to raise £2,000 for the younger children of the marriage. The other party is (3) Edward Morgan of Cardiff, esq., uncle and guardian of 2. Recites deeds between 1, Thomas Thomas of Gabalfa, gent., and John Smith of Red Lion Square, co. Mddx, gent., settling the above properties, 1786, and that the entire manors etc. in co's Mon. and Glam., and a moiety of the m's, lands etc. in co. Mon. are subject to a mortgage for £18,000 to the representatives of Doctor Talbot, dec. and another mortgage for £6,300 to William Hurst, esq., and the representatives of Calvert Richard Jones, esq., dec., of which the above properties are liable for half of each sum. Consideration: the intended marriage and the portion of 2, being a moiety of a leasehold estate in co. Cork, Ireland. Attested copy, 31 Jan. 1793.

Power of attorney from (1) William Mark Wood of 66 Pall Mall, esq., to (2) Leonard Hicks and William Marris, both of Grays Inn, co. Mddx, gents., to receive transfers and dividends, and to sell all or part of his £484-10-5 reduced 3% annuities (see A 41). Copy, endorsed that the annuities were sold by virtue of this power of attorney, 3 March 1845.

Petition for an Act of Parliament to settle the estate of Charles Van the younger, dec.,

Petition by (1) Thomas Van of Llan-wern, co. Mon., esq., and Catherine Van, widow, his mother, to (2) the lords spiritual and temporal in Parliament, for an Act of Parliament to settle the estate of Charles Van the younger, dec., father of the said Thomas Van and husband of the said Catherine Van, he having sold considerable amounts of his settled estate, through misapprehension of his marriage settlement (D 2/16). The petitioners pray leave to bring in a Bill to confirm the sales of settled land, saving the petitioners and the purchasers the delay and expense of suits in equity, and to settle other lands in lieu of those sold. Attached: letter of attorney of the said Thomas Van to Charles Morgan, John Morgan and Charles Gould to bring a Bill into Parliament. Neither the petition nor the letter has been executed.

Petition for an Act of Parliament to enable Edward Mathews to settle a jointure on Jane his wife,

Copy (18 cent.) of a petition (undated; 1682x1692) for an Act of Parliament, reciting that Jane, wife of Colonel Edward Mathews of Llandaf, and daughter of Sir Thomas Armstrong, kt, dec., brought a portion of £3,000 to their marriage, yet no jointure or settlement was made. Edward Mathews in consideration of the portion is willing to settle a jointure out of the lands and tmts settled on him by the will of his father, with the consent of William Mathews his brother, but is not able to do so under Common Law. The petition is for an Act to enable Edward Mathews to settle on Jane his wife a jointure not exceeding £150 a year.

Papers relating to the commutation of the tithes of p. Llanfihangel Llantarnam, including those of the tithing or hamlet of Llandderfel, which belong to William Mark Wood, esq., all co. Mon. The papers comprise a copy agreement between Edward Francis Blewitt, esq., owner of the tithes of corn and grain in the p. other than in the tithing of Llandderfel, William Mark Wood, esq., owner of the tithes of corn and grain in the tithing of Llandderfel, Rev. David Davies, curate and owner of all other tithes, and the land-owners within the p., for the commutation of the tithes, with the endorsement that the original was executed by Mr Hicks on behalf of Mr Wood, 7 Oct. 1843, and the bill of Thomas Morris, surveyor and apportioner, 1846.
