Papers, [16 cent.]-[early 20 cent.], mainly of Thomas Pennant and his son, David, and comprising accounts of tours in Britain and Europe; geographical, topographical and historical notes and transcripts, as well as notes on natural history; accounts of David Pennant; correspondence of Thomas and David Pennant; annotated printed works of Thomas Pennant, including copies, with manuscript and other additions and related papers, of Outlines of the Globe, a work in four volumes by Thomas Pennant published between 1798 and 1800; and papers relating to the Downing estate and to Flintshire.

Research papers and family history of Theodore White, 1935-1975, comprising theses on chemical and biochemical subjects, submitted to the University of Wales, Aberystwyth, 1935-1939; reports on the industrial extraction of wood products in India, 1964-1968, and on the Quebracho (tanning product) industry, 1971-1975; offprints of articles from scientific journals; and a copy of the donor's family history, which partly relates to the Rhondda, home of his maternal ancestors, in the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries.

Music manuscripts and miscellaneous papers, 1893-[1999], transferred on the closure of the Welsh Music Information Centre, Cardiff, comprising a large number of music scores and sketches. Thirty-five inscribed slates from Strata Florida Abbey, Cardiganshire, dated to the fifteenth century. Many of the slates are broken fragments with the inscriptions consequently often being incomplete; all are irregular in shape. The inscriptions comprise both text, the majority being in Welsh with examples of Latin and English, and pictures, comprising zoomorphic and anthropomorphic forms, geometric shapes and patterns, as well as other indefinite markings. The majority of the slates are inscribed on one face only, with eleven bearing inscriptions on both sides (SF 1, 3, 5-7, 15, 19, 22, 24, 28-29).
The five slates SF 13-14, 23, 25-26 are all broken fragments of one original slab (along with other still missing sections); with the exception of SF 13 the fragments can be joined up into one larger piece. SF 13-14 and 26 contain parts of a single epitaph, incised in large outline letters, which together appear to read: 'Hic ia[cet] ...es ap ... [a]p ll[ywelyn] [mona]chus'. SF 33 and 35 are also two fragments of a single slate.

The music manuscripts and papers, 1933-2010, of Alun Hoddinott, comprising a large group of music scores and sketches, [1940?]-2007; and papers, 1933-2010, relating to his life and work, comprising mainly correspondence, 1933-2010, scrapbooks, 1940-2008, concert programmes, 1936-2008, catalogues of works, 1946-2007; and articles and reviews, 1954-2006. Two additional manuscripts: anthem 'In the Beginning' (Opus 23A), and Toccata alla Giga for organ (Opus 37), purchased July 2016 have been incorporated into the main series of music A3 and A5. An additional group received in 2017, of mainly personal papers and correspondence is listed under 'Alun Hoddinott, 2017 (additional)'. Additional papers comprising handwritten scores of Alun Hoddinott's Nocturne 1 for Piano (Opus 9) (1956) and Nocturne 2 for Piano (Opus 16, No. 1) (1959) (December 2021 donation) have been added to the description. A sketchbook of Symphony II Op29 was purchased September 2022.
