Letter from [ ] to [Mrs Mary Jones, Llandovery],

'My' d[ea]r Mrs Jones is grown very strange, not a word about our removing; 'I' wrote a letter to send to 'you' by the Hereford post; writer has a little ribbon ready to give the post for Little Bess; the post-office is now where David Rutherch lived next door to Peggy Philipps; 'we' are more comfortable than where 'we' came from; 'my' d[ea]r Mary Anne was afraid 'I' should keep her; ?Mr Edward came to fetch her; she drank tea at the Bear; 'my' sister unites in 'our' sincere love to Mr Jones and recipient. Incomplete.

Letter from R[ichard Reynolds, bishop of] Lincoln, to Mr ... at H,

Recipient has written a very rude letter to writer's registrar at Aylesbury on 20 May 1724, insulting him for doing his duty at writer's visitation, adding indecent reflections on 'his' superiors, and declaring that he will preach every Sunday without entering as curate; such an open defiance of government is not to be suffered in any well-ordered state; unless recipient repairs to Aylesbury within eight days after receipt of this letter and signs a full revocation of all the rude and lawless sayings in his letter and promises never to offend in like manner again, writer will order a process to be formed against him in his consistory court at Lincoln. Endorsed: 'This Lettr is a Lye & Scandal all over, for Mr Townshend was Curate: & I had no Business at Visitation.'.
