Will of Lewis Gwyn of Dolegwyn, co. Mer., esq. Bequeathes 20s. towards repairing the church of Towyn, [co. Mer.], and 20s. to be divided between the poor of the said p., and 5s. towards repairing the cathedral church of Bangor. Devises all his lands in t. Mays Llangedrys, p. Talyllyn, being late the lands of Richard Howell, to his daughter Gwen Gwyn but if his daughter Anne Nanney, wife of Griff Nanney, pays to the said Gwen £50 within four years after his death he devises the same to the said Anne, his lease of the King's mill called Melyn Llanegryn, p. Llanegryn, to the said Gwen, lands called Tir Reinallt, t. Bodgadvan, [p. Llangelynnin], purchased from Hugh Thomas, to his said daughter Anne, all the rest of his lands in co. Mer. to his daughter Gwen until Michaelmas 1630, and a mortgage of £200 on lands called Bodgadvan and Effinglawdd, p. Llanglynin, to the said Gwen. Desires his executors to erect near his house at Hampsteed an almshouse for six poor men and six poor women, all of whom are to be over the age of 60, together with a warden and a chapel, the warden to be a deacon and to read the prayers of the Church and the scriptures daily for which he is to receive £20 a year and a black gown at Christmas, and each of the poor persons to receive 14s. a month and at Christmas a grey cloth gown faced with yellow bayes, all of which is to be paid for after the death of his wife from the rents and profits of man. St Johns Wood. Bequeathes £20 to the poor of p. Swarkeston, Derbyshire, and £50 to the poor of p. Hampsteed. Desires that a dinner be given annually to his executors and the dean and chapter of Westminster at Hampsteed House to see that the same is kept in good repair.
