Answers of Roger Mainwaring, esq., and Thomas Gwynne, gent., and Jane Gwynne (wife of George Gwynne) defendants to the bill of complaint of Rees Williams, in which the said defendants disclaim all Knowledge of any conveyances made by Sir Rowland Gwynne and his brother, George Gwynne, husband of the said Jane, with the exception of a deed of 24 February 1690/1, made between the said George Gwynne of Lloynhowell, esq., co. Carmarthen, Jane his wife, and Sir Rowland Gwynne of Llanllweth, co. Radnor, of the 1st part, Thomas Gwynne aforesaid and David Evans of Cwme ye dwr, co. Carmarthen, gent., of the 2nd part, and Rowland Gwynne of Talliaris, esq., another of the defendants in the bill of complaint and the said Roger Mainwaring of the 3rd part, providing for the settlement of estates in the parishes of Kile ye Cwm, Llandingadd, the town of Llandovery, Llanvaire ar y brynne, Mothvey, Llanthoysaint, and Llangadock, co. Carmarthen, with provision for a jointure of £40 to the said Jane after the death of her husband, or should it happen that she does not cohabit with her husband during his lifetime, it is recited that by an agreement in 1695 the said Jane from 1 May following should receive £40 per annum for her separate maintenance out of the profits of lands of the said George Gwynne in Llandingad, receiving £20 on 29 September 1696 and £20 on following 1 May, and subsequently she was to hold the part of the Llwynhowell lands and the water corn grist mill called Llwynhowell mill in the occupation of said Thomas Gwynne at the rate of £12 per annum (as part of the £40) and £28 per annum from the complainant Rees Williams or his tenants; the said Jane Gwynne, having heard that her husband, George Gwynne, had sold or mortgaged lands settled to her in jointure to the complainant, pleads that she should not be prejudiced in that regard; all the defendants state that the complainant did not at any time desire them to execute any deeds to hire by the direction of the said George Gwynne, and the defendants Mainwaring and Thomas Gwynne submit that if they be compelled to sign such deeds concerning lands conveyed to them in trust they should be indemnified and saved harmless by decree of the Court.
