Catalogue of letters,

An indexed 'Where is it?' notebook containing a 'Catalogue of Letters' in the Cwrtmawr Collection alphabetically arranged according to the surname of the writer. The index does not go beyond Cwrtmawr MS 487.

Catalogue of MSS and Books of Edw. Breese

A handsomely bound volume of manuscript entries and press cuttings entitled 'Catalogue of M.SS. and books of late Edw. Breese, F.S.A., Morva Lodge, Portmadoc'. Inset are a covering letter from Charles E. Breese, Portmadoc to J. H. Davies, [19]23, and a transcript by J. H. Davies from the Catalogue of a list made in 1879 of the Breese Manuscripts, with additional particulars of their dispersion and their then location.

Catalogue of Panton manuscripts,

A transcript of 'A Catalogue of the Manuscripts, which Paul Panton Esqr. of Plas Gwyn, bought of the Rev. Evan Evans, Octr. 27 1787, and received at Plas Gwyn, Decr. 29th 1787. Transcribed from the MSS of the late Paul Panton Esqr By David Thomas [Dafydd Ddu Eryri]. A.D. 1792' [See BM MS 15024]. The list closes with the inscription 'Y Fron Oleu, Llanrug, near Caernarvon. June 6 1821' and is said to have been transcribed from a manuscript of David Thomas 'which has been lost for years and is scarcely legible'.

Catalogue of Welsh ballads,

An interleaved volume (385 pp.) belonging to J. H. Davies made up of pages from Y Traethodydd, 1886-92 ('Hen Gerddi y Cymry', a catalogue of Welsh ballads compiled by John Jones ('Myrddin Fardd'), with pages 346-50 from Revue Celtique, II (part of a supplement [by D. Silvan Evans] to Llyfryddiaeth y Cymry). There are numerous additions and annotations by J. H. Davies, including cross-references to his own Bibliography of Welsh ballads printed in the 18th century (London, 1911) and an index to the authors, etc. of the pre-1800 ballads in the 'Myrddin Fardd' catalogue. The numbers used in the index correspond to the numbers in the 'Myrddin Fardd' catalogue while the page references are to the pages in the present volume. Loose inside are a list of ballads, etc. by Thomas Edwards ('Twm o'r Nant'), Hugh Jones, Llangwm and Ellis Roberts, with number or page references as before, and a letter, 1908, from D. Rhys Phillips, Swansea to [J. H. Davies] (jottings on three Shrewsbury 'effusions').

Catalogue of Welsh books,

A volume containing a catalogue compiled by David Evans, Llanrwst of the Welsh books in his possession ('Cofrestr ... o'r Llyfrau sydd gan David Evans, Llanrwst'). The books listed are many and varied, and include periodicals, 'cerddi', interludes, almanacs, etc., with some seventeenth century items, and there are some interesting bibliographical notes. The catalogue appears to have been compiled in the third quarter of the nineteenth century.

Catecism yr Esgob Thomas Ken,

An unpublished translation (title page + 18 pp.) entitled 'Egwyddor, neu Gatechism newydd; yn Cynhwys yr holl Ddysgeidiaeth Gristianogawl, Mewn ffordd dduwiol Hawdd ac eglur, Drwy Gwestiwn ac Atteb gan y Gwir Barchedig Dr. [Thomas] Key [recte Ken], Esgob Bath a Wells'.

Cell-gasgl Sion Lleyn ...,

A small volume entitled 'Cell-gasgl Sion Lleyn, 1805', containing 'englynion' (chiefly epitaphs), stanzas in free metre including hymn stanzas, and one or two longer poems (e.g. 'Awdl ar Dosturi 1809' and 'Pillion i Dwm or Nant herwydd ei Lyfr, sef Ban y Byd - Creglais o Groglofft &c, 1809, Ebrill 27') by and in the autograph of John Roberts ('Sion Lleyn'). Other poets represented are Griffth Williams('Guttun Peris'), W. Elias and O[wen] Griffith. There is also a list of unfamiliar Welsh words ('Geiriau Cymraeg dieithrol yn amlwg'), with the following note: 'Hyn a gymerwyd o gasgliadau Thos Prys Esqur, Plas Iolun, a D. Ddu a S. Lleyn'. On p. 58 is the note 'Mai 11. 1812 Priodais' [see Cwrtmawr MS 510, p. 106].

Cerddi a charolau,

An imperfect and mutilated manuscript of anonymous 'cerddi' and 'carolau', of which some are dated within the period 1736-40. There is also one English carol dated 1744.

Cerddi a charolau,

An imperfect manuscript of 'cerddi' and 'carolau' of the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries, probably written for the most part by Jenkin David, Cmarch [sic], David Jones, and Evan David, Glaslwyn. The collection was compiled around the period 1765-6. The majority of the poems are anonymous, but the names of the following authors have been recorded, some in the last lines of the compositions: William Nicholas (pp. 4, 48), Thomas John (p. 16), Sion Havart (p. 41), Evan Evans ('o fydwellty yn Sir Feirionydd', p. 60), Evan Griffith (p. 74), Sion Dafydd Sion (p. 82), John Evan ab Evan, 1746 (p. 91), John David John ('o bant y moch mowr yn Llandisil (1631), p. 109). At the end of the volume are blacksmith's and other accounts from the Llandysul area, 1778 and undated, and a list of money gifts entitled 'The names of mens on my Mitting Day' (pp. 141-144). Beginning at the end is a 'halsing', 1722.

Cerddi Huw ac Edward Morris,

A volume entitled 'Cerddi Huw ac Edward Morris' containing transcripts by J. H. Davies mainly from NLW Add. MS 9 of 'cerddi', 'carolau', etc. in free metres by Edward Morris ([1607]-89), Perthillwydion, Cerrigydrudion and Huw Morys ('Eos Ceiriog'; 1622-1709), Pontymeibion, Llansilin. At the beginning of the volume is a list of titles, with sources, of printed poems by Edward Morris.

Davies and some press cuttings of printed and manuscript ballads ('caneuon') and a few 'englynion' mainly of the first half of the nineteenth century.
