Register of births and baptisms,

A copy of a register of births and baptisms belonging to Bethel Independent Chapel, Mold, Flintshire, 1813-63. The successive ministers of the church during this period were Benjamin Powell, Robert Williams, Rhes-y-cae and Isaac Harries. Isaac Harries was ordained there in July 1825 and he remained at Bethel until his death in 1864. Others who are named as having officiated at baptisms are the Reverend M. Jones, Merthyr, Mr P. Griffiths, Llanrwst, the Reverend W. Williams, Wern, T. Jones, Newmarket, B. Evans, Bagillt, Owen Owens, Rhes y Cae, John Sa(u)nders, Buckley, David Roberts, Denbigh, the Reverend James Maurice, the Reverend Thomas Ellis, Jonah Lloyd, St Asaph, the Reverend J. Griffith, Manchester, Thomas Lewis, Pwllheli and Builth, William Rees, Mostyn, the Reverend Jonathan Davies, Evan Price, Ruthin, the Reverend Lewis Everett, D. W. Jones, Holywell and the Reverend Henry Lewis, Llanidloes. A note among the entries for 1837 reads 'The original register was sent to The Secretary of State Home Department White Hall London, April 29 1837'. There are no entries between 1838 and 1852. The volume is written in the same hand throughout (?that of Isaac Harries). At the end of the volume there is a copy in a different hand of part of a letter written from The Cross, Mold, 13 November 1866, concerning Alltamy colliery, [Flintshire].

(With 172D). Two volumes of rough transcripts, abstracts, extracts, etc. by J. H. Davies, with one transcript by E. A. Lewis, of original material (14c-19c) mainly relating to Caernarvonshire and partly to Anglesey and Merioneth, extracted mainly from public records. Other sources include manuscripts in the British Museum; Bangor episcopal lease books, surveys and rentals in the possession of the Welsh Church Commission (now in the National Library of Wales); and printed matter.

A volume containing a record of the subjects debated by the London Cymreigyddion Society, 1826-50, with voting results frequently given. Loose inside the front cover is a letter from Hannah J. James, Penygraig to J. H. Davies, [19]22.

Probate records,

A notebook in the hand of J. H. Davies containing extracts, 1700-98, from Index Books 1-2 of probate records of the archdeaconries of St Davids and Cardigan, then in the District Probate Registry, Carmarthen, and subsequently transferred to the National Library of Wales. The extracts are confined largely to an area covering Caron, Trefilan, Llanddewibrefi, Llanbadarn-odwyn, Llangeitho and Nancwnlle, Cardiganshire. At the end of the volume is a list from Index Book 2 of wills and administrations 1746-97, of persons largely surnamed Rowland.

Printed matter, etc.,

A composite volume containing a copy (title-page wanting) of [Walter Davies, Rhyddid: traethawd a ennillodd ariandlws Cymdeithas y Gwyneddigion ar ei thestun i eisteddfod Llanelwy ... 1790 (Llundain, 1791)] and also Geirlyfr Ysgrythyrol (88 pp., Aaron - Barnu) [?1801], the original Part I (later withdrawn) of the work expanded by Thomas Charles and issued as Geiriadur Ysgrythyrol ... y llyfr cyntaf (1805). At the end of the volume are wrappers of [George Lewis], Esponiad ar y Testament Newydd, Rhif 1. (Caerlleon, [1800]) containing an advertisement for the Geirlyfr Ysgrythyrol, and there is also a cutting from Y Goleuad, [4 Chwef. 1871] containing a long letter from Morris Davies on the subject of 'Geirlyfr Ysgrythyrol John Roberts a Geiriadur Ysgrythyrol Charles'. At the beginning of the volume are (?) wrappers of Esponiad ar y Testament Newydd, Rhifyn XVII (Gwrecsam: Ioan Painter), with part of a sermon in manuscript, and Rhifyn XX (Bala, R. Saunderson), each with a list of books published by [Dr] G[eorge] Lewis. A note in the autograph of 'Morris Davies, Portmadoc' occurs on the first page of the Geirlyfr Ysgrythyrol.
