Gweithiau Iolo Goch ...,

A copy of Charles Ashton: Gweithiau Iolo Goch gyda nodiadau hanesyddol a beirniadol (Croesoswallt, 1896), with annotations, some if not all by J. H. Davies. Inside the volume is a notebook probably in the autograph of Charles Ashton containing a list of the poems of Iolo Goch, with particulars of sources, etc., a shorter list in the autograph of D. Silvan Evans with a reference to a manuscript (then at Llanwrin, now Cwrtmawr MS 325) in the autograph of Wiliam Henri [sic] Mounsey, 1859, and a letter, [19]22, from Henry Lewis, Swansea to Principal [J. H.] Davies.

Thirteen letters, 1889-94, from Cha[rle]s Ashton, Dinas Mawddwy to O[wen] Jones (1833-99) concerning material for Ashton's bibliography of nineteenth century Welsh books.

List of books,

Lists of books with prices, offered by D. Williams, London to the Reverend Robert Williams, Llangernyw and Conway. Most of the books are in Welsh or relate to Wales. There are notes, dated 1831-4, appended to three of the lists, relating to books available and books for which the addressee had enquired. A list of 212 Welsh books, published between 1802 and 1890, sent by [Charles Ashton] to [Daniel Silvan Evans], with a note appended (the above list contained all the books not purely theological out of about 600 books which the writer had recorded, he would like to see a copy of the 'Bardd Cwsg' edited by the addressee and also his note in Revue Celtique on Llyfryddiaeth y Cymry.).

Miscellaneous papers of Owen Jones (1833-99) comprising a notebook containing a Welsh translation by [Owen Jones] of 'Antigone', dated 12 Jan. 1866 (cf. Y Traethodydd XXI (1866), pp. 176-202) and some items of verse, 1869-75; a list of book titles, 1841-90, also by Owen Jones, with some notes in pencil probably by Charles Ashton; a notebook in an earlier hand containing hymn stanzas and other items of verse in Welsh, with receipts, 1854-5, from Thomas Jones, Vrongain [Llidiardau near Bala] to various persons for rents in the Llidiardau district, 'Coste wrth adeiladu Ty'r ffridd, 1859', etc.; and other items including 'Cwrs y Byd', gan un a'i lygad yn ei ben, Llythyr viii', a letter from Owen Jones to [?the Reverend John Davies, Bontddu] (beginning wanting), a copy of a reply, 1861, from Owen Jones to Dr Edwards concerning Llanuwchllyn, some Bala College examination results [1866], 'Dau Hir a Thoddaid, Beddargraph Thomas Stephens, Merthyr (Eisteddfod Caernarfon 1877)' by 'Dyfrid Beneurog', Alban Hefin 1877, extracts from printed sources including Y Drysorfa and one or two printed items ('Cyfarfod Misol Trefaldwyn Uchaf. Rheolau Sefydlog'), etc.
