W. Williams, Knighton,

Concerning an action against WEP for debt by a Mr Meredith. Asks for a compromise to avoid further legal proceedings.

A letter from WEP concerning a meeting of magistrates,

A letter from WEP to John [ ] concerning the calling of a meeting of magistrates in Aberaeron at a convenient time for Colonel Love: the matter of the destruction of Llan-non Toll House, Isaac Evans accused. If there were sufficient proof then Sir James Grahame should be informed as it was desirable to keep troops in different parts of the county.

D. Saunders Davies, Newcastle Emlyn,

As all is tranquil in the county and Quarter Sessions at Aberaeron has decided police force unnecessary expense, he thinks it wise to do nothing at the moment. Colonel Hankey has suggested a smaller force.

Sir James Graham's office,

The destruction of the tollgate at Cardigan. He has received a statement and plan showing position of gate and he believes the people have a wellfounded grievance. He asks him to use his influence with Trustees to remove the gate to a more suitable position.

Colonel Love, Carmarthen,

An official reply to WEP's desire to have a detachment of troops to guard the re-erected gate at Llan-non and the Lampeter area, which seems in direct contradiction to the magistrates desire expressed at Aberaeron that county quiet and no troops or police needed. Draft of WEP's reply (Nov. 20). He had misunderstood what was said at Aberaeron. Northern part of county only quiet. If troops withdrawn he thought there would be outrages in South, and so he wanted more police for whole county.

Charles A. Pritchard and B. J. Jordan.

A declaration by 2 magistrates that 2 police officers are not sufficient for p. Betws Ifan and Blaen-porth, so they have drawn up a list of men to serve as special constables for 3 months and demand they attend to be sworn in. Names attached.

Charles A. Pritchard and B. J. Jordan.

Encloses a list (not present) of special constables who have volunteered for service in his area. Still much feeling against Poor Law. Has submitted a duplicate to Sir James Graham, and suggests Mr James of Pontsaeson as JP.
