W[illiam] Pitt, Downing Street, [London], to [John] Griffith,
Delayed answering Jg's letters, thinking that he [Wp] should cease to hold office before doing anything about them. For the same reason did not apply for the position in question, and find it has been filled at Lord Bulkeley's request. The appointment was made on supposition of a vacancy which did not occur. Would have wished to please Jg. The New Ministry not yet completely formed but Wp daily expects his release. Pretyman sends regards; hopes to see Jg in London soon.
