Royal letters ratifying a charter of H.VII from which it appeared that the town of Ruthin was an ancient free borough town to which it had pleased the said king to grant divers freedom and privileges; also requiring the alderman to keep and observe the said privileges and liberties; and declaring that within the liberties of the town they, and no one else, were to take upon themselves the 'Governance and Ordering of all Matters that Concern the peace and the good Ruling of our Subjects, the Burgesses and Inhabitants of Ruthin'. Most of the records relate to the period when the lordship was owned by the Myddelton family of Chirk Castle.
