Chichester tithes,

Records relating to the collection of tithe rents and compositions for John Palmer Bruce Chichester (c.1794-1851) and Alexander Palmer Bruce Chichester (1842-1881), lay improprietors for many parishes in north Cardiganshire. The 1882 volume for example includes the p’s and t’s of Aberystwyth, Broncastellan, Ceulan a Maes-mawr, Clarach, Cwmrheidol, Cyfoethybrenin, Cynnull Mawr, Elerch, Faenor Isaf, Faenor Uchaf, Gwnnws, Henllys, Isaf-yn-dre, Llanafan, Llanbadarn-y-Creuddyn Isaf, Llanbadarn-y-Creuddyn Uchaf, Llanfihangel-y-Creuddyn Isaf, Llanfihangel-y-Creuddyn Uchaf, Llangwyryfon, Llangynfelyn, Llanilar, Llanychaearn, Lledrod, Melindwr, Parsel Canol, Tirymynach, Trefeurig, Uchaf-yn-dre and Ysgubor-y-coed.

The papers mainly comprise marriage settlements and executorship papers relating to various members of the Parry family, the purchase of 3 Laura Place, Aberystwyth, and Tynycoed, p. Llanilar, and miscellaneous financial papers.

Miscellaneous incoming letters,

These letters mainly date from 1848-1861, and mostly relate to Messrs Hughes & Roberts’s private clients, although some relate to public duties, and probably include some of the contents of the bundles missing from SC 1, above. The bulk of the letters are from the same period, 1840s and 1850s, with a few earlier and later strays.
