I have sent you a letter along with a report on the activities in the durbar but have not received any acknowledgment. There were a number of things which I wanted to write after receiving your reply. These are now being sent in my report in Bengali language which is being sent under separate cover. I will be grateful if you could reply to this as soon as possible.

Acknowledges receipt of two letters, and informs that he arrived at Bardwan on Sunday the 5th of Pus. As agreed he will keep sending his reports about the situation.

Thank you very much for your reply to my letter which was passed on to me by Babu Sada Shiv. I was pleased to read the contents of your letter. The letter of the members of the Council addressed to Sada Shiv which I had sent you would have shown you the extent of losses incurred by Babu Sada Shiv. I hope that you will be able to explain this to the other members of the Council or appoint an Englishman to investigate this case.

Details large amounts of money, totalling 195,000 rupees, due in fees for a 30 month period. Meanwhile mentions that Amir Beg Khan left Hughli fort that day [i.e. 26 December 1758] for Murshidabad. Another,much fuller translation of the contents is CC2/9, item. no. 319

Hamid Allah Shaikh, Shaikh Ghulam Ali and Mir Ghulam Gilani who are at present staying here have proved themselves in bravery, respect and pious behaviour. I hope that when they come and see you you may be able to offer them appropriate employment or service.

Previously I had written two or three letters to you but did not receive any reply. Now I am coming to Calcutta to see Mr Clive and would like to call on you at the same time. I am still waiting a decision on my court case. Any help in this regard will be highly appreciated.

After enquiring about the health and welfare of the recipient Qasim Ali Khan informs that the bearer of the letter was one of his dearest friend and he was coming to see him in the belief that the Nawab would do whatever is possible to assist him.

Refers to an enclosed [not found] news report from the harkarah at Azimabad.

Refers to transfer of large sums of money in relation to 29th of Safar, in particular 150,000 rupees sent from Hughli to Calcutta. Also mentions Shitab Rai and receipt of a letter from Azimabad.

Thank you for your letter informing about the good news of the arrival of Company ships from England and your victories at Plassey. I am delighted to know that you have now been appointed as the big chief / kalan Sahibi[Governor General] at Calcutta. Many congratulations on this promotion.

Relates to Peter Amyatt at Azimabad and the sum of 10,000 rupees, later stating that the fawjdar, Fazl Ali Khan, has gone to Lucknow at the request of Shuja-ud-Daula, Nawab of Oudh.

Thank you very much for your reply to my letter regarding the case of Qasim Ali Khan who has been sacked from the administration of Chaklah Rangpore. You have advised that the people responsible for Kothi Qasim should get in touch with Qasim Ali Khan to discuss the matter. Meanwhile, Mr Hastings advised him to come and see me and I was able to help him to get his appointment with the Nawab.
