Rough proceedings/minutes,

Includes five loose leaves, dated 10 April 1778, being a continuation of the incomplete minutes of the last recorded meeting together with a, receipt 27 April 1766, for 150 guineas received by Henry Dogge from the trustees and a note in French relating to the payment of legacies.

Rough proceedings/minutes,

The series consists of rough proceedings/minute books of the executors’ meetings from 1774 to 1791. Amongst matters dealt with are the payment of funeral and mourning expenses, the probate of Clive’s will, the payment of legacies, annuities, and tradesmen’s bills, the maintenance and education of his children, the recovery of debts, the sale and purchase of estate properties and claims against the estate. The subjects of Indian interest include bills on the East India Company, the expiration of Clive’s jagir (5 May 1784), and the payment of his attorneys’ bills in Bengal with the closure of his concerns there (11 December 1785). The proceedings give the names of the executors together with those of other persons whose attendance was required at the meetings including on occasions Lady Clive and Edward, Lord Clive.

Rough particulars and abstracts of particulars,

Particulars, 1767 -1771, of the lordships of Usk and Trelleck giving names of landlords and tenants, the name (including field names), extent, and location (by parish) of the property, its value, observations/remarks on its ‘quality’ (i.e. condition, physical characteristics and use) and the amount of rent payable and contain details similar to those given in the rentals EU1. They pertain collectively to the lordships of Usk and Trelleck, the manor of Troy, the Usk Castle demesne, Trelleck demesne, and estates bought of sundry persons by Lord Clive since his general purchase of Lord Windsor's estate.

Papers, 1727-1791, relating to both Clive's public and private life but mostly to the former. They include letter books of outgoing letters sent from both England and India, 1752-1774; Clive's financial records, mainly relating to his financial concerns in India, 1752-1774; estate and household records, 1761-1781; records relating to his official duties in India, particularly as governor of Bengal, including records he acquired of earlier East India Company employees, 1727-1772, political papers, including canvassing lists and poll books, [c. 1761]-1775; and records of Clive's trustees and executors, 1774-1791.

Account of the revenues of the provinces of Bengal, Bihar and Orissa (itemised by district) taken in the year 1758 including particulars of the revenues arising from the lands ‘Containing only what each Country pays for the Colsah being the Kings Rent and the Jaghire which is the Rent due on the Nabobs Lands.’

Revenue accounts and reports,

Report in the form of a journal kept by Mr Graham, the resident at Midnapur, of a circuit, undertaken by him between 27 March and 30 April 1766, of the districts (described as provinces) of Midnapur and Jallasor. It gives information relating to the boundaries, extent, inhabitants, cultivation and revenue system of the constituent ‘parganas’ [subdivisions of a district].

Copy of news reports. -- Report of Gurdatt Harkarah stationed with the army of Nawab Shuja al-Daulah Bahadur dated 8 Muharram, reg.yr. 4 and received at Azimabad on 15 Muharram. He has also submitted the following reports, which he had received from Shahjahanabad. -- After the war between Mir Khurd and the late Sadiq during which the latter was killed a reliable person reported to Nawab Shuja al-Daulah Bahadur that the wealth belonging to the deceased Sadiq at Khairabad was taken away by an Arab named Ali Beg, a faujdar in Khairabad, who was now selling his goods. The Nawab had sent a force to capture him but he managed to escape. Later the Nawab sent a jamadar named Ismail Khan belonging to the risalah of Mir Fath Allah Khan with two thousand soldiers. The Arab was ultimately caught and was brought back to Khairabad. Ali Beg offered twenty Lac rupees to the jamadar to present to the Nawab. After long negotiations it was agreed that he would pay the above sum in instalments. Out of this sum ten thousand rupees was given to one person as a reward and five thousand to the cook. In addition twenty five thousands was given to Ghulam Husain Khan, in charge of the elephant yard; ten thousand rupees were allocated for the preparation of rath khanah of the Begum Sahibah and big tents etc; five thousand rupees as a present to Nawab Baqa Allah Khan, son of Amir Khan. The family of Raja Jagat Narayan who had died in Delhi were awarded a Khillat of five pieces of cloths and a Khillat of three cloths for Lachhmi Narayan and ten thousand rupees for the preparation of the funeral. In addition the family was given twenty thousand rupees by the King. -- Rajah Ram Narayan was instructed to send an up-dated map of Gorakhpur, which he has supplied. The Nawab was very pleased with this and he called everyone and asked them to get ready after Muharram. -- Mir Naim Khan, Faujdar of Sadhura who is a darogha of Habib Khan, was previously instructed to deposit ten thousand rupees in the treasury.
