Pedigrees

A volume of pedigrees, 18 cent., relating to families living in the parishes of Mold, Flintshire and Hope, Flintshire (pp. 1-38 front to back), and of various English families (pp. 1-86 back to front). The volume is oblong, opening lengthways, and paginated from both ends as pp. 1-38 and 1-86 front to back and back to front respectively.

Llewelyn Alaw's Collection of Unpublished Welsh Airs

The 'Collection of Unpublished Welsh Airs' made by Thomas D. Llewelyn (Llewelyn Alaw), Aberdare, which won the prize at the Llangollen Eisteddfod of 1858.
An index of the contents by Nicholas Bennett is on pp. 36, 38. A copy of the Programme of Subjects and Prizes for the 1858 Eisteddfod is pasted in on p. 41.

Parchedig John Williams, Llanrwst: Diarhebion

A copy, late 18 cent., in the hand of the Reverend John Williams, Llanrwst (1760-1826), of the proverbs in the dictionary of Dr J. Davies (1632), with a Latin translation and also some additions to the proverbs printed in the dictionary; a glossary of uncommon Welsh words is also included (pp. 157-168).

John Jones, Llanddeiniolen, Thomas Edwards (Twm o'r Nant), ac eraill: Barddoniaeth

A volume, late 18 cent./early 19 cent., consisting of four different manuscript books bound together. Pp. 1-48 are partly (pp. 1-3) in the hand of Thomas Edwards (Twm o'r Nant, 1739-1810), the manuscript containing many unpublished works of his; pp. 49-204 consist of the poems of John Jones, schoolmaster at Llanddeiniolen, Caernarfonshire in his hand; pp. 205-370 are probably in the hand of David Jones of Caeserwyd (see pp. 325, 342), who also wrote the englyn on p. 363; pp. 371-478 are either in the hand of or written on behalf of the same David Jones (see p. 469).

John Jones (Talhaiarn): Cyfieithiad o The Bard

A volume containing a translation into Welsh of The Bard by Thomas Gray in the hand of John Jones (Talhaiarn, 1810-1869), apparently prepared for competition at the Carmarthen National Eisteddfod, 1867. A printed sheet entitled Tri Englyn ar Fedd Talhaiarn, Eisteddfod Rhyl 1870, the englynion written by William Thomas (Islwyn, 1832-1878), and a letter from Mrs E. A. Jones to Sir John Williams with reference to the 'Talhaiarn MSS' have been inserted into the volume.

Collections for the Life of the Reverend John Blackwell (Alun)

A bundle of papers, 1797-1840, consisting of notes, correspondence, cuttings, etc. relating to the life and work of the Reverend John Blackwell, B.A. (Alun, 1797-1840) and collected in preparation for the book Ceinion Alun (Rhuthun & London, 1851); the papers also include an imperfect sermon by the Reverend John Blackwell and notes on the Welsh Bible.

Sermons

A volume of anonymous sermons written c. 1671; lists of names appear on pp. 262-266 (written 1671) and there is a poem at the end of the book (pp. 258-260).

Baptismal register of Craig y Bargoed Chapel

The register of baptisms at Craig y Bargoed Chapel from 9 November 1831 to 14 November 1838, the ministers officiating being the Reverend J. Jones (9 November 1831-27 September 1835) and the Reverend Thomas Rees, D.D. (1815-1885) (18 September 1836-14 November 1838); at the other end of the book are notes relating to a sermon on Romans X.14 in the hand of Thomas Rees.

Reverend Thomas Rees: Statistics of Independent churches

A volume containing statistics of the Welsh Independent churches for the year 1861 collected by the Reverend Thomas Rees, D.D. (1815-1885); the book also includes a list of dissenters in Breconshire, 1673, extracts from various sources and from the Cilgwyn church book, and notices of various Nonconformist ministers. At the other end of the book, in the hand of Thomas Rees, are Welsh hymns, extracts from various sources, a poem by the Reverend Samuel Jones, Brynllywarch, and a list of dissenting Protestant ministers in Wales, with their dates of ordination and deaths.

Petitions to the managers of the Congregational Fund

A volume containing letters and petitions addressed to the managers of the Congregational Fund by various churches, ministers and students from Wales between 1769 and 1811. In most cases, the appeals are for grants to help either impecunious ministers or students wishing to proceed to one or other of the Nonconformist Academies; in the case of students a sketch of his 'Articles of religious belief' is usually appended.

Reverend Thomas Rees: Miscellany

A volume containing miscellaneous papers of the Reverend Thomas Rees, D.D. (1815-1885), including a lecture by Dr Rees entitled Welsh Dissent, its History, its present state and prospects (pp. 1-6) and copies of letters, 1738-1739, addressed to Howel Harris of Trevecca by David Williams of Pwllypant; at the other end of the volume is a list of subscribers to the History of Protestant Nonconformity in Wales.

Parchedig John Davies ac eraill: Emynau

An 18th century collection of Welsh hymns together with extracts from various English authors partly in the hand of the Reverend John Davies of Llansamlet (1740-1821); some of the hymns were composed by the Reverend Davies but most were written by contemporary hymnologists. Also included is a satirical song of 25 verses in reply to a previous satire, the subject being the orthodoxy of a preacher named Jones.
