Writ of Capias ad Satisfaciendum to the sheriff of co. Merioneth, in respect of John Lloyd late of Maentwrog, gent., ... Lloyd, gent., son and heir apparent of the said Evan, in respect of a debt of £60 recovered by Ellis Hughes, gent., and damages of 15s. 1d. Latin. [Illegible in parts].

The recipient's deputy Mr. Lloyd almost a year ago was paid £8. 13s. 6d. in an action for the recovery of rent due to the writer from a tenant of his near Harlech. But the writer cannot recover the money from Mr. Lloyd, though it has often been required. He requests the recipient to see that it is immediately paid.

Testator willed an bequeathed:-. To my dear wife Elizabeth (by virtue of a provisio in an agreement of 2 Aug., 1709), my messuage called Nanhoran Issaph in the township and parish of Llangian (excepting parcels called Cae yn y Cefn, Cae yr Devaid, y weirglodd tan y Ty, nant yr aley, Cae beudu (Budu) mawr, and Cae melin), not exeeding the yearly value of £20, for the term of 15 years, in trust to receive the rents thereof for the first 10 years for the portion and advancement of my eldest daughter Catherin Hughes;. The remaining 5 years for the portion and advancement of my second daughter Jane Owen otherwise Jane Hughes;. If by reason of taxes, reparations, or some other charge the clear yearly rents of the said premises during the said term of 15 years do not amount to the sum of £300 intended to be raised, my said daughters Catherin Hughes and Jane Owen otherwise Jane Hughes shall bear a proportionable share of the loss accordng to the value of their legacies;. If the inheritance of the premises within the 15 years shall fall to my eldest daughter Catherin Hughes by virtue of any limitation in the settlement or otherwise, then the benefit and advantage of the legacy ordered out of the premises shall go entirely to my youngest daughter Jane Owen otherwise Jane Hughes;. Should either of my siad duaghters die within the said term of 15 years, her share is bequeathed to the survivor;. Should both die within the said term, their shares shall go to my executrix;. Whereas I also assigned over a specialty for £30 owing me by one Richaard Rogers otherwis Jones who lives near Oswestrie, and have left him a legacy of £10, and to his mother Margery verch Richard £20, my meaning now is that the said Margery shall allow her said legacy fo £20 so that her said son may have his said specialty up to be cancelled, and is she shall not be contented so to do, I revoke the said legacy given her and give her only 1s. To my cousin Griffith John Griffith and the rest of my cousin's children, to John Griffith, £10 equally out of the rents that shall accrue in the year 1670 from lands and tenements hereinafter named;. Elin verch Hugh, my daughter-in-law, is indebted to me of 18 beasts, to wit 6 kine, 6 bullocks of 3 years' old, and 6 beasts of 2 years' old;. The writer is most sorry to hear of the loss of the recipient's wife. He has made bold to trouble the recipient with the sending of these letters to 'your' son and 'my' cousin, which he has sent unsealed that the recipient might peruse them, lest 'you' might wonder thereat. After that he desires the recipient to seal them and send them to 'him'. He desires two or three lines from the recipient to 'my' cousin, for though he makes no doubt but his own may serve, yet a father's remembrances must needs go further. his wife and he join the remembrances of their love to you and their good cousins, though unacquainted. He desires the recipient to excuse his boldness and to send him with the most convenient messenger what answer his cousin shall send him, which he shall expect with 'his' first convenience. 'Your' loving obliged cousin.

He expected to have seen him at Saython. He has directed Mredith Wm. to pay him £9 in part of the recipient's rent, and likewise he appointed his own cousin Richard Humffreyes of Llanvrothen to pay him £9. 2s. more. He desires the recipient to call to them for these two sums, which he hopes will be paid 'you' by 1 November, 1652. He has left some things that are convenient for the house at Saython, and has set a price upon them far less than they are worth, and for many of them he has been offered the price, and for some things more. He has left with Wm. ap Evan a note of the thins and their prices; all comes to about £10. He desired the recipient to repair thither with all the conveniency he may, lest Wm. sells them away, and if the recipient pleases to take all, hemay, or what he thinks fit for his purpose let him take at their several prices. He desires to ehar what things the recipient takes that he may take a course to pay 'you' the rest of the rent, whereof he expects full abatement of the monthly assessment. 'Your' loving friend.
