Electoral reform

The file comprises printed materials, typescript circulars and reports, 1990-1992, on the general theme of electoral reform, some relating to Scotland. Several of the reports are the work of the Labour Party's Working Party on Electoral Systems.

Parliamentary Boundary Reform: Dyfed

The file consists of photocopies of correspondence and papers, 1993-1994, relating to the review of parliamentary constituency boundaries, recommendations for reform and reactions to them, within the county of Dyfed.

Welsh Local Authority Association

The file comprises typescript and printed material, 1994-1995, on the various proposals to set up a Welsh Local Authority Association in the wake of the impending local government re-organisation.

Women's issues

The file contains press releases, memoranda, reports and circulars relating to the Labour Party's policies towards women and women's issues. It includes material on women's safety, homelessness, the selection of women candidates for the 1997 general election, bridging the gender gap, and women in public appointments.

Countryside Wales

The file contains press releases, memoranda and reports concerning the Labour Party's policies in relation to the Welsh countryside.

Local government

The file contains manifestos, policy statements, circulars, memoranda and reports relating to Labour Party proposals and policies for the reform of local government, many in relation to Wales. Many of the papers concern the party's campaign in the 1995 local government elections and its 1995 Annual Conference.

Labour Party Election Addresses

The file comprises mainly election addresses and leaflets issued by Labour candidates in Welsh constituencies during the June 1987 general election campaign, together with a few local government election addresses and other leaflets.

The file consists of correspondence and papers, December 1988-January 1989, relating to the selection and nomination of Kim Howells as the Labour candidate.

Staffing support

The file contains miscellaneous correspondence and papers, February-April 1989, relating to staffing, including the minutes of meetings of the Strategy Planning Team, lists of helpers and lists of visits by Members of Parliament during the by-election campaign.

Election literature

The file includes leaflets, election addresses and stickers, February 1989, circulated by the Labour Party during the by-election campaign, together with lists of canvassers who distributed them.

Curricula vitae

The file contains copies of the curricula vitae of the applicants for the Vale of Glamorgan vacancy, March 1989, and details of their nominators.

By-Election 'legalities'

The file is composed of papers, April-May 1989, concerned with the 'legalities' of the by-election campaign: hours of polling, postal voting, the conduct of the poll, the appointment of the election agent, insurance etc.
