The file comprises a grant of annuity by Anne Hughes, widow of Robert Hughes, 1670, and articles of agreement, 1676, by the representative of John ap Richard (alias Evans) another claimant to Cae'r berllan and Nant yr Helfa, to release right and title to William John ap Richard; prenuptial and postnuptial settlements of John Williams of Cae'r berllan and Grace Williams of Coed Mawr, 1686, 1695; marriage settlement of Owen Hughes, second son of Hugh Roberts of Gwydir, and Jane Evans of Gymanog, 1699; a surrender by Grace Williams of Cae'r berllan, 1732/3, of the lands in Tybrith which had been granted as her jointure by her marriage settlement of 1686, in return for an annuity; disentailments of Llwyn Gronw and Cae'r berllan by Robert Hughes, 1733, presumably in anticipation of his marriage to Elizabeth, daughter of Thomas Williams of Chester, in the following year.

Mortgages of Cwyber and other Rhuddlan lands

The file includes the original mortgages of Cwyber and the surrounding lands in Rhuddlan by John Griffith (1) of Garn to Pierce Lloyd, Pierce Lloyd's widow, Anne, and his son, Richard Piers, in 1680, 1682 and 1685 respectively; a surrender of lands in Cwyber by the widow of John Morgans, a trustee of J.G.'s will, to his creditors, Edward Chambres and Thomas Griffith, 1695; a mortgage by John Chambres (son of the creditor) and others to Ralph Wilbraham and Ellis Young, 1704, to enable partial repayment of the original mortgages; a feoffment by the last named mortgagees, to uses of the marriage settlement of Thomas Foulkes and Margaret, his wife, for whom they were trustees, 1705; an assignment to John Griffith (2), [1716x1722], by the surviving heirs of the original Lloyd/Piers mortgagees, of the portion of land mortgaged in 1685, and the remaining mortgage to Lewis Atkinson, 1722; an assignment by Lewis Atkinson, following an investigation of title, back to John Griffith (2) and a mortgage of Cwyber House, 1739; assignment of a bond by John Humffreys (claimant against Lewis Atkinson and others) to John Griffith, 1739, and the final reconveyance from Foulk Lloyd (administrator of Lewis Atkinson) to John Griffith (2), 1749, more than sixty years after the first mortgage. Cwyber was mortgaged again, with other parts of the estate, by John Griffith (2) in 1757, and by John Griffith (3) in 1759.

The file comprises a mortgage for a term of 500 years, dated 1757, in estates comprising Garn and other Denbighshire properties specified in the marriage settlement of John Griffith (2) of Garn, situated in the parishes of Henllan and Llanefydd, a portion of Roe in the parish of St Asaph and the Flintshire properties, including Cwyber, in the parish of Rhuddlan, as security for the repayment of a debt of £560 due by bond from John Griffith (2) to Edward Travers of Lincoln's Inn, accompanied by an appointment made in accordance with the terms of the marriage settlement to John Davies, surviving trustee, to raise £400 towards discharging the debt; after the death of John Griffith (2) there was still owing to Edward Travers the sum of £542-1-2, which John Griffith (3) paid in 1760.

Mortgage of Coed Panton

The file comprises a mortgage for 500 years, dated 1761, of Coed Panton in the parish of Llanefydd, Denbighshire, with closes and parcels of land (names given), as security for repayment of a debt of £350 due by bond from John Griffith (3) of Garn to David Davies of Aberchwiler, preceded by a deed to make a tenant to the precipe of the Garn estate (of which Coed Panton was part), 1759.

Bonds and promissory note, Griffith family

The file comprises a promissory note from Silence Holland to Anna Maria Griffith to pay £60 to John Evans of Segroit Issa, according to the conditions of a bond, 1765, bond by John Griffith (3) to his wife's aunt, Mary Hughes of Weeg, for payment of £1700, 1769, bond by William Douglas Wynne Griffith to Charles Byne of Hexham for payment of £100, 1867, with receipt, 1876.
