Letters to miscellaneous recipients

The series comprises letters, 1680-1882, to recipients who were not directly related to the Griffith family of Garn, but who had personal or business connections with them, together with a small number of letters where neither the author nor the recipient can be identified.

Diary

The file contains detailed descriptions of daily activities at Garn, particularly meals, and the state of George Griffith's health.

Plasnewydd trust papers

The file comprises papers relating to Plasnewydd and the property of Mary Wynne, including a rental of her estate, 1783, an abstract of deeds, 1791, valuations, accounts, bills and receipts, 1795-1826, an agreement for the sale of Plasnewydd to Sarah Heaton, 1807, and legal papers concerning administration and debts, 1806, 1814-1843, together with a copy of her will, 1803, and several codicils, 1805-1812. The accounts show general outgoings, and highlight such problems as the shortage of available funds for the education and maintenance of young William Wynne and for paying legacies due to him; one account of 1814 shows total debts of over £30,000 on the estate.

The file comprises an agreement, 1754, by John Griffith (2) of Garn to sell to John Rocke of Trefnannau the estate of his wife, Mary, deceased, in the townships of Collfryn and Trefnannau, with the additional information that she had inherited the land under the will of her aunt, Mary Davies, who had originally purchased it from William Vaughan.
