Ifor & Joy Thomas Collection : Photographs

A variety of photographic prints acquired by Ifor & Joy Thomas. Although they are assumed to be the creators of these prints most are anonymous and cannot be definitely attributed. These arrived in NLW in three containers, a large black portfolio, a smaller brown portfolio and a large shoe box.

Untitled

I Admire Thee Most

A photo montage of Joy Thomas holding a fan in a lace frame, in the style of a Victorian Valentine card. Unfortunately the bottom left hand corner of the print has been cut off.

[Haymaking]

A sepia tinted print showing haymaking equipment forming a strong diagonal from top left to bottom right of the photo. In the middle distance, on the extreme left, are a man and horse. In the far distance a stand of trees.

[Harvesting scene]

A field of corn, half standing, half harvested and standing in stooks. A solitary metal wheel dominates the foreground. Beyond the field of corn is an area of woodland.

Right hand profile of a young, well-dressed and bearded man looking slightly downwards. His hands are crossed in front of him, a cigarette in his right (upper) hand.

[Guildfords Notable Buildings]

A series of murals painted on a brick wall depicting, clockwise from top, Guildford Cathedral, Clock Tower, Holy Trinity Church, entrance to Livery Stables at the Angel Hotel, Tunsgate, and the town clock (centre).

[Grid Lettering]

An alphabet written in lower and upper case letters. A-C in each case are written in a grid suggesting that this was a teaching aid to show how to construct grid lettering.

[Gower views]

A contact print of four images taken on 6 x 6 cm negatives. Two are of farms, one of a black and white timbered house, the other is of Worms Head seen from a distance.

[Gower coastline]

A view of the Gower coastline in the middle and far distance. In the foreground is a bell tent of the type known to have been used by Ifor & Joy Thomas during their stays at Llangennith.

Gower Coast

Print with a white border of cliffs and a sandy beach on which two people are walking. The photo has been shot into the sun giving a chiaroscuro effect
