Davies of Cwmsaebran deeds and documents,

A group of deeds and documents of William Davies, Cwmsaebran, Treherbert (a pioneer of Libanus Baptist Church), and of his son John Davies, Brynfedwen, Treherbert. They include receipts to William Davies in respect of the payment of rent of Ynys Wen and Ton Llwyd, Ystradyfodwg, 1822-1854, and of the payment of legacies bequeathed by his grandfather and father, 1805-1884; the will of William Davies, 1853 (proved 1855), and receipts and accounts in connection with probate and the payment of legacies, 1855-1890; vouchers and receipts of John Davies in respect of rent, the schooling of Catherine Ann David, etc., 1869-1874; the will of Catherine Richards, the daughter of William Davies and wife of James Richards, Baptist minister, Pontypridd, 1866 (proved 1867), and vouchers to John Davies in respect of the payment of legacies, 1866-1884; a lease of the Post Office, Treherbert, 1867; a section of strata as proved by borehole at Ystrad Gas Works, with a covering letter by Alfred Lester Lewis, mining engineer, Treherbert, 1894; etc. Formerly D. Benjamin Williams ('Gwynionydd') diaries,

Eleven diaries of Benjamin Williams ('Gwynionydd'), 1878, 1880-1884, 1886-1890. The title-page of the vol. used for 1878 is wanting; the remaining vols are all 'The churchman's pocket book'. The entries, which are largely in English, relate to preaching engagements, parochial duties (Tir-yr-abad, Abergwennol, Cwmdwr, Llanofer), the writer's health, the writer's visits to the vale of Teify, to Llanwrin and to Caernarfonshire, the movements of the writer's son Tegid, the writer's health. The vols also generally contain memoranda of cash payments and receipts, e.g. remittances to his mother and his children, payments for the hire of a pony on Sunday, the borrowing and lending of money, the purchase of food, etc. The following selection of entries may be quoted:. 1878, Feb. 4.
