Original envelope labelled ‘Account of different moneys invested in trustees’ names 1887’, containing an account of Sir Pryse Pryse’s sales, a draft authorisation to the trustees for the sale of stock and investment of the proceeds, a rental of the estates charged with the jointure of Margaretta Jane Fryer, and an advisory letter from Boys and Tweedie, 1887.

Notebook entitled ‘Barddoniaeth’ (Poetry), containing poems in Welsh and English and other compositions by John Lewis, son of Anne Lewis, the old nurse of Sir Pryse Pryse of Gogerddan, compiled at Cardiff, 1879-1880. The contents include ‘Ar Drefn Natur’, ‘Ar Ddyfodiad Syr Pryse Pryse i gyflawn oed ai etifeddiaeth ar y 18 Ionawr 1858’, ‘What this doleful sound they are making? ‘ (on the death of a young girl in a coal pit at Aberavon), 1851; other poems to the heir of Gogerddan, the Marquis of Bute, 1872, and Charles Bird of St John’s church, Canton, 1877, together with reminiscences on John Lewis’s own career and the life of his mother, Anne Lewis (d. 1867); with enclosures, 1847.

The file also includes letters concerning the rights of the lord of the manor of Genau’r-glyn to wrecks in the foreshore of the river Dovey, under a proposed Dovey Reclamation scheme. The letters are addressed to G.G. Williams, Sir Pryse Pryse and Pryse Pryse Pryse, from Boys and Tweedie, 1857-1899; Thomas Savin, 1866, Cambrian Railways, 1881-1883, F.J. Webb of the Land Drainage Offices, Evesham, 1881-1882, the Land Loan Enfranchisement Company, 1882-1886, and H.J. Wyley of Bridgnorth, 1882-1887, with occasional copies of replies.

Original bundle of bills and receipts labelled ‘Cardigan Receipts 1851 & thereabouts’ but the contents are actually dated 1850-1854, and include items from Pembrokeshire and occasionally from Gogerddan. There are bills for the freight of timber from Cardigan to Saundersfoot; building materials and repairs at Trevane in Pembrokeshire, Cillech, Cefenmaesbach and other estate properties, 1852-1854; election expenses for 1849-1852; and a letter of attorney to Thomas Davies of Cardigan, 1853, for the purpose of an enclosure act in 1845-1846. The file also contains Evan David’s bill for housework and gamekeping [at Gogerddan], 1850; and tax receipts for Gogerddan and Lodge Park, 1853.

Original envelope addressed to J.G. Williams containing a letter by Boys and Tweedie, solicitors, 1857, sending copies of legal papers and other documents relating to lead mining on the Gogerddan estate. These include the bill of complaint to the High Court of Chancery by Edward Pryse of Gogerddan against Lewis Lewis of the parish of Llanbadarn Fawr, defendant, for trespass and mining on the common of Brynmawr in the manor of Genau’r-glyn, adjoining the defendant’s property of Llanerchyclwyde (boundaries described) with a map attached [1693x1697]; a bill of loading of Cwmsymlog ore onto the ship, Royal Fancy, 1755; proposals for mining leases to Robert Morris and Thomas Morris, and copies of papers in a lawsuit between John Pughe Pryse, plaintiff, and John Lloyd and Maria Charlotta, his wife, [c 1753] -1754.

Original bundle of deeds and documents relating to the manor of Cyfeiliog, Montgomeryshire, [c. 1674]-1920. It includes a late eighteenth century copy of a grant by Wenwynwyn, son of Owain Cyfeiliog, to the Abbey of Ystrad Marchell, 1201; legal papers relating to the payment of amercements for sheep held in the pinfold at Tafolwern and for the erection of a cottage [1670s]; leases and agreements by William Pughe of Mathafarn, of lead mines in the parishes of Llanbryn-mair, Darowen and Penegoes, 1712-1715, with memoranda on the same, 1920, and a demise by William Pughe to John Lloyd of Aberllefenni and others, of the manor of Cyfeiliog, to satisfy the payment of debts, 1696, revoked 1706.
