Sir Daniel Lleufer Thomas papers
Rhagolwg argraffu Gweld:

Letter from Sir James Hills-johnes, Dolaucothy,

Thanks Daniel Lleufer Thomas for his letter of welcome home. Says he enjoyed South Africa, where the weather was perfect on both land and sea. No doubt Daniel Lleufer Thomas has read of the splendid reception given in honour of the writer, who was astounded at the warmth of the greetings.

Letter from Rhys Morgan, Pontypridd,

Thanks Daniel Lleufer Thomas for his letter of sympathy on the death of his son in France. Says his son has been recommended for a posthumous VC, and he [the writer] 'should like to have it for the moral effect upon the youth of Wales'. Encloses copies of his son's last letter from France and a letter of condolence from his Commanding Officer. 'Personal'.

Letter from Mrs M. E. Davies Roberts, Aberystwyth,

Thanks Daniel Lleufer Thomas for all that he did for her late husband, Principal T. F. Roberts of Aberystwyth, and asks him to let her know of any notices regarding her husband which appear in the Cardiff newspapers. Does not feel her husband received due reward for his services, since a knighthood was withheld from him but was given to others of similar position. Lloyd George has sent a telegram of sympathy.

Letter from David Oliver, Cambridge,

Thanks Daniel Lleufer Thomas for his kind wishes. Says that both he and his wife were ill during the previous year but are now recovered. Went to Bangor as the representative of the University Council, and saw a number of mutual friends there including Sir John [Edward] Lloyd and Lord Justice Sankey. Refers to the death of a number of relatives, including his [the writer's] father.

Letter from John Picton, Aberystwyth,

He is pleased to hear that Daniel Lleufer Thomas is none the worse for his ambulance journey from Oxford to Cardiff. Writer has sold his house, and he and his wife intend going to Bristol to live with their daughter. Hopes that Daniel Lleufer Thomas is comfortable in Cardiff where he has many friends and is well-known.

Letter from Thomas Jones, CH, Westminster,

Writes with regard to the collection of letters to which Lady Thomas referred, commenting that 'It is important for the little country's history that they should not be destroyed before being examined by some reliable and confidential person'. He recommends Sir Percy Watkins as a suitable person to do some preliminary sorting of the letters.

Letter from George M. LL. Davies, Rhondda,

He is sorry that he had to call so early that morning on a chance visit to Rhiwbina but is glad that she and Daniel Lleufer Thomas are being cared for by 'one who shared our admiration for you both'. Writer adds 'When I think of your care for him & of his care for so many of the best causes of Wales and of the most Christian parts of its culture & conduct, I feel ashamed that Wales seems forgetful of it all'.

Letter from Elsie M. Francis, Bristol,

Writes on behalf of her mother to thank Lady Thomas for her letter of sympathy on the death of her father. The writer's mother was so ill herself that the doctor had expected the worst but she is recovering now. She is sorry to hear that Daniel Lleufer Thomas is so very poorly.

Letter from Alex J. Grieve, Manchester,

Does not feel he can do anything in the way Lady Thomas suggests, as there were many who were in more constant touch with her husband, but he cannot refuse so honourable a request [See D8 for Alex J. Grieve's personal tribute to Daniel Lleufer Thomas]. Asks Lady Thomas to send him the cutting mentioned. Writer had a bad time in December and is living in some discomfort but is able to carry on. Hopes that Lady Thomas is in better health and that Cardiff will have more peace than of late.
