Sir Rice ap Thomas

  • NLW MS 2038D [RESTRICTED ACCESS].
  • Ffeil
  • [17 cent.], [1751x1787]
  • Rhan oPanton Manuscripts

A manuscript containing 'A Short View of the Long Life of Sir Rice [Rhys] ap Thomas K.G.'. The text of this manuscript is fuller and more correct than that printed in the Cambrian Register, 1 (1795), pp. 49-144, but breaks off with the appointment of Sir Rice ap Thomas as Justiciar of South Wales (pp. i-xviii, 1-139, 145-151).
There are marginalia giving, here and there, references to original documents. There is also a continuation to the manuscript by Evan Evans (pp. 139-144, 152-159), who states: 'There was another chapter of this curious history as appears by a shred of a leaf still remaining of the Author's autograph ... I have collated this MS. [i.e. 2038D] carefully with the Author's MS. which I am sorry to say is imperfect' (p. 158).

A dictionary of navigation

'A breife abstract, exposicon, and true demonstration of all parts and thinges belonginge to a Ship and the practique of Navigation' by H.M. (pp. 15-174), with a list of contents (pp. 3-10) and preface (pp. 11-14).
Also in the volume (pp. 1-2) is a leaf in the hand of Evan Evans (ieuan Fardd) from a history of Sir Rhys ap Thomas, which appears to belong between pp. 156 and 157 of NLW MS 2038D.
