The file includes certificates awarded to Glyn Jones, 1911-1912, 1914-1916; desk diary, 1952; curriculum vitae, [c. 1955] and [c. 1980]; a printed copy of Divertimento for oboe, clarinet, horn and bassoon by Alun Hoddinott, dedicated 'to Glyn Jones on his 60th birthday' and signed by the composer, 1965; copies of the running order for the Welsh Union of Writers' tribute to Glyn Jones, held at the Chapter, Cardiff, 1991, with Harri Pritchard Jones's introduction and an address by Glyn Jones; copies of the Order of Service at his funeral, [1995]; and membership cards, programmes etc. of various societies, including The Phoenix Club and The Cardiff Writer Circle, 1952-1968 (with gaps).

The file comprises notebooks, 1926x[1995], containing various notes in the hand of Glyn Jones. Included are notes taken during lectures and classes which he attended; Welsh grammar, vocabulary and translations; journals containing various observations and jottings (some of which may have been used for stories); plots, notes and drafts of mostly stories; recollections of Anglo-Welsh writers; notes pertaining to Anglo-Welsh writers; and notes concerning English literature.

Miscellaneous translations

The file comprises cuttings of the column 'Y Cronicl Cenhadol' in the periodical Y Tyst, 1946-1948, which appear to have been translated into Welsh by Glyn Jones; and a translation into English of the short story 'Pant y Bril', by D. J. Williams, published in Planet, 1971.

Miscellaneous prose writings

The file contains manuscript notes and stories (mostly incomplete) by Glyn Jones, [1925x1995]. Some appear to be articles or lectures.

Miscellaneous poetry

The file consists of mainly manuscript and typescript drafts of poems by Glyn Jones, [1930x1995]. Among the papers are Polish translations of poems by him which appeared in the periodical Tygodnik kulturalny, 1983, and drafts of sections of the poem 'Seven Keys to Shaderdom', including a letter from Richard Poole, editor of Poetry Wales, 1992. Some of the poems are written on paper containing other drafts by Glyn Jones and material pertaining to Yr Academi Gymreig.

The file consists of miscellaneous manuscript notes, with some typescript pages, [1935x1995], most of which are in the hand of Glyn Jones.

'Llwch Haiarn'

The file comprises papers, [c. 1858]-1900 and 1936, pertaining to David William Jones ('Llwch Haiarn'), paternal grandfather of Glyn Jones. These include poetry in his hand, 1863x1897, which appear to have been composed by him and a number of which were entries for local eisteddfodau; a notebook dated 1862; two Valentine cards; a framed memorial card, 1900, which contains englynion by other poets as tributes to 'Llwch Haiarn'; and a newspaper cutting, 1936, which contains a reference to him.

Leslie Norris

The file consists of typescript poems, some drafts, by Leslie Norris, 1968-1985 (with gaps). Some include manuscript amendments and notes in the hand of Leslie Norris and a number are signed by the poet. Several items also contain brief notes in the hand of Glyn Jones, which mostly appear to identify poems included in Ransoms, or Mountains, polecats, pheasants.

John Tripp and others

The file includes drafts, 1976, of the poem by John Tripp, 'Poet in the village', on the occasion of the publication of Selected poems, and a copy of the script of the play 'It's not by his beak you judge a woodcock', 1972, adapted by John Tripp from the short story by Glyn Jones; typescript copies of poems by Roland Mathias, [1944x1980], some of which contain manuscript amendments; and copies of plays by Dedwydd Jones, with printed leaflets and covering letter [?1963x1973].

The file includes manuscript and typescript copies of poems by John Ormond, 1969x1975, which appear to have been presented as gifts to Glyn Jones; copies of the script, 'Laughter before nightfall (or The man who rubbed the rainbow)', presented by Yr Academi Gymreig; a tribute to Graham Sutherland by John Ormond, 1980; press cuttings of obituaries of John Ormond, 1990, and copies of tributes by Glyn Jones and Dai Smith, 1990.

Jack Jones

The file includes papers, [1950]x1971, 1977, pertaining to Jack Jones. These include drafts of a script, together with related notes, for a television programme about Jack Jones, 1977; notes by Glyn Jones of works by Jack Jones; a draft script, 1963, which appears to be a radio programme about Merthyr, illustrated through extracts of the works of Jack Jones and Glyn Jones (in the latter's hand); and a draft script by Glyn Jones about the life of Jack Jones [1950x1971].

Honorary degree and fellowship

The file comprises papers relating to the degree of Doctor in Litteris, honoris causa awarded by the University of Wales, 1974, including Professor T. J. Morgan's presentation of Glyn Jones, and related letters and cards. The correspondents include C. W. L. Bevan, Vice-Chancellor, University of Wales, J. Gareth Thomas, Registrar, University of Wales (6), Raymond Garlick, R. Brinley Jones, John Rowlands (2), Elwyn Davies, A. G. Prys-Jones and a card by John Elwyn. -- Also included is a programme for the degree ceremonies held at the University of Wales, Trinity College, Carmarthen, 1993, with a typescript address which appears to have been delivered by Tudor Bevan, who presented Glyn Jones to an Honorary Fellowship of Trinity College.

Gregynog poetry anthology

The file comprises papers which relate to an anthology of Anglo-Welsh poetry which Gwasg Gregynog intended to publish. Glyn Jones was invited to select poems for the volume and write an introductory note. The papers consist of lists and photocopies of selected poems, and correspondence, 1979-1983, mostly between Glyn Tegai Hughes of the Press and Glyn Jones. In addition to the anthology, the two volumes of translations of hen benillion by Glyn Jones published by Gwasg Gregynog, When the rose-bush brings forth apples (1980) and Honeydew on the Wormwood (1984), are also discussed. Some notes and draft letters are written on papers pertaining to Yr Academi Gymreig.

Goodbye, what were you?

The file comprises cuttings, 1985-1994 (with gaps), mostly about, or containing references to, Glyn Jones, including reviews of his works, mainly Goodbye, what were you?, 1994. Also included in the volume are two letters, 1986 and 1994, one of which is addressed to Robin Reeves from Glenda Beagan.

The file mainly comprises photocopies and typescripts of works by Glyn Jones, [c. 1992], selected by him for 'Karl's climb and other perils', later published under the title Goodbye, what were you? (Llandysul, 1994), with typescript drafts of the foreword and bibliography, a photocopy of a review of the anthology [1994], and related letters, 1992 and 1994, and notes [1984x1994]. One notebook contains an interview between R? and G[lyn Jones], in the latter's hand, about his background and writings, [1985x1995].

'Gerard Manley Hopkins and Wales'

The file consists of a manuscript draft and radio script of the feature programme 'Gerard Manley Hopkins and Wales', broadcast during September 1951. In addition, the file contains related correspondence, 1951, including letters from Aneirin Talfan Davies (3), and copies of the radio scripts by Aneirin Talfan Davies, 'Y Bardd o Swydd Dorset' and 'William Barnes, the Dorset poet', 1950, which contain references to Gerard Manley Hopkins.

The file comprises correspondence, 1981-1982, including draft letters by Glyn Jones, mainly regarding the purchase of the manuscripts and books of Gwyn Thomas by the National Library of Wales, and the publication of a proposed volume of the short stories of Gwyn Thomas by the Poetry Wales Press (Glyn Jones being one of Gwyn Thomas' literary trustees).
