‘The golden shoemaker’,

Correspondence (1982-1984) and a typescript copy (1974) of a children’s play, a dramatized adaption of the story of Manawydan from the ‘Mabinogion’. Originally written for a Pembrokeshire Drama Playwriting Competition (1974) and also read by ‘Made in Wales’ (1984).

‘The lost star’,

Correspondence (1949-1955), a typescript copy, and an issue of ‘Sunny Stories’ (7 February, 1955) of a children’s fairy story; it was also published in Sunny Stories’ book ‘Read Aloud Tales’ (1956).

‘The riding lesson’,

Correspondence and a typescript copy of the children’s story about Terry and Tansy. A note states ‘Pub.[lished] [Fishguard] County Echo’ in Oct and December 1958’.

Tommy the tugboat stories,

Typescript copies of children’s stories (1950-1956), correspondence (1951-1962), and a cover and extracts of ‘Sunny Stories’ in which Tommy the tugboat stories were published. Several stories were also broadcast on the BBC’s ‘Listen with mother’ series (1951-1954).

Scripts and correspondence for picture strip stories,

Correspondence with publishers and typescript from which an artist could work to produce picture strip stories. The stories are ‘Wilberforce J (Jonah) Whale of the Sea Rescue Service’, ‘Peter and Paul – the penguin twins’, and ‘The hovercopter patrol’ (all 1961); ‘Bunny Cuddles’, Gulliver Guinea Pig’s travels’, and ‘Pixie Pip’ (all 1964). Some scripts were written for existing characters in ‘Jack and Jill’ and ‘Playhour’ comics.

‘Good morning Wales’ – ‘Old sea dogs’,

Typescript research on seven sea captains and a quarter-master carried out for the ‘Good morning Wales’ programme in June 1966; only Captains Roberts, Varney and Hughes were used for the recording. Also included is correspondence with various publishers and the BBC and an extract from the Western Telegraph, Haverfordwest, who published all the articles.

‘Language Experiences in Reading’ – entries and correspondence,

Correspondence and typescript copies of ten children’s stories submitted to Encyclopaedia Britannica Educational Corporation, Chicago, USA for their ‘Language Experiences in Reading’. The stories are ‘The lake monsters’; ‘The new sledge’ (Peter and Patsy); ‘Freddie the ferry boat’; ‘Flipper the seal’; ‘The Unicorn’; ‘Picture stories’; ‘The Dragon with toothache’; ‘Mo makes a boat’; ‘The landslide’ and ‘Surtsey – the Young Island’.
