Letters from Arthur Owen Vaughan

Letters (some incomplete), 1880-1884 and 1887-1890, addressed by Arthur Owen Vaughan to his sister [Miss Ada Mills, later Mrs Ada Stott] and brother [Phil], together with some empty envelopes, 1888-1904. The letters were written during his time in America as a cowboy and addressed from locations such as Middle Kiowa, Colorado; Cummins City, Wyoming; Laramie, Wyoming; Forsyth, Montana; and during his time in London, and with The Royal Dragoons. They are signed under one of his several names and pseudonyms, such as Robert Mills, Bob, Robert Glyndur / Glyndwr, and R. S. Milne. Also included is a letter addressed to Robert from David and Martha Wilkinson, dated 15 August 1883.

Miscellaneous Notes titled 'The History of Wales' by Gilbert Stone, sometime Scholar of Gonville and Caius, Cambridge. BA, Llb, published in 1915 by Harrap of Kingsway. It contains an extract which refers critically to the work of Arthur Owen Vaughan. Contained with the extract in the same handwriting is a note. The author claims to know Egmont Hake, the biographer and cousin of General Gordon. The author relates how he knew about Col. Vaughan in South Africa and how he was described by one who served with him as 'the bravest man I ever knew.' .
