Labour Party printing press

Letter from Dr Mervyn Jones, Aberystwyth to Dr Mike Hughes regarding the future arrangements for a printing press which had been purchased by the Cardiganshire Labour Party following the 1979 General Election. A note explaining the history of the press compiled by the donor is included in the file.

Conference on the economics of Welsh independence

The file comprises a programme and attendance lift for a conference held at the University of Wales Aberystwyth in January 1969 on the economics of Welsh independence. The key speakers were Professor Leopold Kohr and Dr Edward Schumacher and a number of key individuals in political and cultural life attended.

Letters relating to policy initiatives on skills, the 14-19 Diploma, the Learning and Skills Council, briefing notes prepared by Universities UK, proposal for the first UTC; responses to letters of congratulation etc. Correspondents include Alan Johnson MP, Hilary Benn MP, Kim Howells MP, Bill Rammell MP, Ed Balls MP, Lord Adonis, Boris Johnson, Lord Dearing, Dr Hywel Francis MP, Estelle Morris MP and David Willets MP.

Welsh Devolution Campaign in Ceredgion

Correspondence between Mr E Thomas, Manager of the National Westminster Bank, and Deian Hopkin, Vice-Chairman of the Wales for the Assembly Campaign in Cardiganshire and mid-Wales. The local campaign had borrowed money to fund campaigning activity but after the defeat of the proposals in the 1979 referendum the individual signatories, including Deian Hopkin took on responsibility to repay the debt. It was finally written off in 1987.
