Transcript of Meline parish register,

Transcript of the parish register of Meline, co. Pemb., made by J. T. Evans, 1918, containing: baptisms, 1702-1812, marriages, 1702-1754, burials, 1702-1812. Between pp. 64-65 there is a typewritten later addition to the original MS, containing more entries. There are notes at the end of the volume consisting of a list of military persons and gentry taken from the register, and also a transcript of a headstone inscription from Meline churchyard. 178 Pp. Transcripts of the parish register (vol. 12) of Stow-on-the-Wold, Gloucestershire, containing: burials, 1813-1862. Made in 1910 by Margaret Louise Williams, Hereford (governess to J. T. Evans's daughter for three years at Stow), and collated and annotated by J. T. Evans. A loose leaf with a transcript (made by J. T. Evans) of a memorial tablet in Stow Parish Church also, a twenty-four page printed pamphlet called The Campden Wonder, written by Sir Thomas Overbury the Younger, which tells of the trial and execution of three people for the murder of a local gentleman, at Chipping Campden, Gloucestershire, who had been sold into slavery to the Turks. Letters, cuttings, documents, and printed paraphernalia concerning Stow parish. 161 Pp. Indexed (apart from transcripts).

Three songs by J. T. Evans,

Printed copies of three songs, the music of which was composed by J. T. Evans: (i) The Fairy's Song to the Water Babies, words by Charles Kingsley (London: Swan & Co., n.d.); (ii) Wind and Wave, words by Norman Bardsley (London: Swan & Co., n.d.). This copy was presented to A. W. Wade-Evans and autographed, 'Your loving brother, J. T. Evans'. The last page of the music is a sheet from another song, the copy having been repaired incorrectly at one time. (iii) A Day that is Dead, words by Tennyson (London: Novello & Co. Ltd., 1916). This was published under the pseudonym 'John Carningli', but the name J. T. Evans has been written under this in the hand of A. W. Wade-Evans. There is a photograph of J. T. Evans on the cover. 12 Ff.

Thirty Nine Articles, 1562,

'Articles whereupon it was agreed by the Archbyshops and Byshops of both prouinces ... in the Conuocation holden at London in ... 1562 ...'. London: imprinted by Christopher Barker, 1579, [28 pp.]. Wrapped in a half leaf of an antiphonal, 14th cent., with part of the office for the feast of the Annunciation. On the verso of the title page is the assent of Robert Neave, vicar of Aldebourghe [Suffolk], to the articles, dated 1587. His signature appears inside the front cover. There are some contemporary notes about books inside the end cover. 'No. 48' appears on the outside front cover in an 18th cent. hand.

Scrap-book inscribed 'A. W. Evans, Jesus College, Oxford. August 24th 1897', containing various articles by, or about, members and friends of the Evans family, taken from local and national newspapers, 1897-1964. 60 Pp. [Note. Rubbings of armorials from Oxfordshire altar vessels.

Rubbings and descriptions of armorial inscriptions on the church plate of Oxfordshire. Parishes are arranged alphabetically, with an index of the armorials. 106 Pp. [Note. MS 52, the journal of Midshipman Edward Spencer Watson, with H. R. Hykins(?), on the Prince Alfred to the West Indies, transcribed by his daughter S. C. Evans. This item was not received with the original accession, but was numbered in anticipation.].

Note-book of A. W. Wade-Evans.

Notes, mostly in the hand of A. W. Wade-Evans, on a variety of subjects, including the ancient history of Wales, with references to Nennius, 'Annales Cambriae', and Arthur's victory over the Saxons at Caerfaddon. There are various notes on the Evans family genealogy, and of other families in the area, and again concerning Pembrokeshire, there are several notes on folk-lore, including a small vocabulary of children's game-words. Also a number of references to Disestablishment. Included after the death of A. W. Wade-Evans are several obituary notices, initialled S. M. H. C.65 pp., the rest blank.

Miscellaneous cuttings,

A scrapbook of miscellaneous cuttings from national and local newspapers, relating to the various interests of J. T. Evans and A. W. Wade-Evans, e.g. the history and antiquities of Pembrokeshire and Wales, Welsh Politics, Disestablishment and other interests in the Church. Most of these articles are letters by the two brothers. The rest are announcements and obituaries of members or friends of the Evans family. Compiled by A. W. Wade-Evans with many annotations in his hand. 173 Pp.
