Transcripts of the note-books of the Rev. John Griffiths,

Transcripts made and annotated by J. T. Evans of Mr Edward Law of Tenby's copy of two pocket note-books belonging to the Rev. John Griffiths, incumbent of Llan-y-cefn and curate of Llandysilio, Pembrokeshire. The entries cover the period 1759-1797, and subjects include: (p. l) Lists of borrowers of books from J. Griffiths's own collection; (p. 7) Lists of 'toasts, sentiments and Hob-Nobs, etc.'; (p. 13) Registers of Christenings, Weddings and Burials performed by J. Griffiths; (p. 17) Accounts paid by J. Griffiths in settlement of debts, wages, and expenditure, and that received by him in salary and for serving, etc.; (p. 19) Lists of offerings from Newcastle and Puncheston parishes, Pembrokeshire; (pp. 21, 49) School registers of Henry's Moat and Puncheston schools, Pembrokeshire, which J. Griffiths opened and was in charge of; (p. 24) Lists of books and manuscripts in J. Griffiths's possession; and (p. 49) Accounts of days' work done by others for J. Correspondence dated 1908-1909, consisting mostly of letters of thanks and congratulation to J. T. Evans on the publication of The Church Plate of Carmarthen (1907). A number are enquiries and answers to J. T. Evans re church plate. Correspondents include Helen Cripps (Countess Bismark), Cirencester; Francis Were, Bristol; Francis Green, St David's College, Lampeter; T. W. Barker, Carmarthen; Col J. A. A. W. Wade-Evans letters and documents,

Miscellaneous correspondence dated 1904-1910, largely addressed to A. W. Wade-Evans, consisting of personal letters, letters relating to A. W. Wade-Evans's livings, and many about his publications and arguments on Disestablishment and the Church in Wales. A number of letters also concern his work on Mediaeval Welsh Law. Correspondents include J. Gwenogvryn Evans and Sir John Rhys, Oxford. The documents include: (i) Licence, 25 Oct. 1906, to officiate at St James's, Norlands; and (ii) Declaration of assent, 10 Feb. 1907, by Wade-Evans at taking up a benefice at Holyhead parish, Anglesey (see also MS 16). 81 Pp. Transcript of a Stow-on-the-Wold parish register, letters etc,

Transcripts of the parish register (vol. 12) of Stow-on-the-Wold, Gloucestershire, containing: burials, 1813-1862. Made in 1910 by Margaret Louise Williams, Hereford (governess to J. T. Evans's daughter for three years at Stow), and collated and annotated by J. T. Evans. A loose leaf with a transcript (made by J. T. Evans) of a memorial tablet in Stow Parish Church also, a twenty-four page printed pamphlet called The Campden Wonder, written by Sir Thomas Overbury the Younger, which tells of the trial and execution of three people for the murder of a local gentleman, at Chipping Campden, Gloucestershire, who had been sold into slavery to the Turks. Letters to members of the Evans family, etc,

Correspondence dated 1891-1910, addressed to various members of the Evans family, Fishguard. One group of letters is addressed to J. T. Evans, and concerns the etymology of the place names Musland and Musturland in Pembrokeshire. Another group is sent from Thomas Henry Evans, to others in the family, when he was in South Africa as a mining engineer during and after the Boer War. He then moved to Alaska. These letters deal with family matters, and T. H. Evans's way of life in South Africa. Printed matter, including material relating to the Conservative and Unionist party in Pembrokeshire, to parish meetings in Fishguard and newspaper cuttings relating to members of the Evans family. 185 Pp. Transcript of the parish register (vol. 1A) of St Mary's, Haverfordwest, containing baptisms, marriages and burials, 1600-1607. Included is a transcript of a fragment of two leaves, page 1 apparently beginning with a burial, 1593, page 2 headed 1595 also includes burials, page 3 baptisms 1621-1622, continued on page 4 until 1624. Made by J. T. Evans 1902-11. Included is a newspaper cutting dated 2 Dec. 1916 with notes by J. T. Evans on the genealogy of the Walter/Walters family of Pembrokeshire. A bill of sale, dated 25 May 1809, for the 'Trafalgar', a ship of Jamaica. Two rubbings taken from the mediaeval bell of Ciliau Aeron, co. Card., and from the Renaissance bell of Llangybi, co. Transcripts of Nevern parish register,

Transcript of the parish register (vol. 3) of Nevern, Pembrokeshire, made by J. T. Evans (typewritten), 1919, containing: baptisms, 1728-1812, marriages, 1728-1754, burials, 1728-1812. Several of the baptisms and burials are noted as being performed at Cilgwyn. A note of a collection for the Society for the Propagation of the Gospel in the year 1752, and notes by J. T. Evans about the curates of the parish. Various entries in the register and a list of Nevern people married at Newport are contained on loose leaves. See also MSS 35, 40. 160 Pp.

Thirty Nine Articles, 1562,

'Articles whereupon it was agreed by the Archbyshops and Byshops of both prouinces ... in the Conuocation holden at London in ... 1562 ...'. London: imprinted by Christopher Barker, 1579, [28 pp.]. Wrapped in a half leaf of an antiphonal, 14th cent., with part of the office for the feast of the Annunciation. On the verso of the title page is the assent of Robert Neave, vicar of Aldebourghe [Suffolk], to the articles, dated 1587. His signature appears inside the front cover. There are some contemporary notes about books inside the end cover. 'No. 48' appears on the outside front cover in an 18th cent. hand.

(I) Typescript transcripts, made by J. T. Evans in 1918, of the parish registers (1711-1727) of Nevern, co. Pemb., with an introduction and notes, ready for publication under the title: 'Registra de Parochiâ Nevern in Comitatu Pembroke 1711-1728' by J. T. Evans (Privately printed, Ltd Edtn, 50 copies, issued to subscribers only. Stow-on-the-Wold: J. H. Alden, 1918). (ii) Antiquarian notes relating to Fishguard compiled in 1921 by T. H. Evans, in Welsh. Some of these are taken from a book belonging to D. Symmonds (see MS 65), and describe some of Fishguard's buildings and places of interest, explaining some of the names.
