Notes on Old Irish and Gaelic
The file comprises notes on the language of Souvenirs D'enfance et de Jeunesse by Ernest Renan (1823-1892), together with other notes for lectures and essays, which Thomas Jones made whilst attending L`Institut du Partheon, Paris.
The series comprises notes on Classical, English and Welsh literature, including Catwg Ddoeth, the Black Book of Carmarthen and other manuscripts, and transcripts of anterliwtiau (interludes).
Catwg Ddoeth and Classical Literature
The file comprises extracts from various Welsh manuscripts containing transcripts of 'Cynghoreu Catwn', a Welsh translation of Dionysii Catonis Disticha de Moribus ad Filium. This manuscript was used by Iolo Morganwg as the basis of the wisdom literaure which he attributed to Catwg Ddoeth. Also included are notes on Classical literature, Roman satire and Lucretius.
The file comprises transcripts of 'Cronica de Wallia' and other documents from Exeter Cathedral Library, together with a photocopy of a fragment of the manuscript 'Seven Wise Masters of Rome' in Trinity College Cambridge, and three notebooks containing notes on manuscripts and literature.
The group includes personal papers and correspondence of Thomas Jones, 1922-1979, and papers, 1940-1981, relating to Mary Eileen (Mair), his wife.
