The letters in the file discuss, inter alia family and domestic matters including building work at Styche and Walcot; British politics and parliamentary affairs, including references to the American colonies and the repeal of the Stamp Act; the Regency Bill; William Pitt's appointment as Prime Minister; the rejection of the India Bill; East India Company business; the political situation in Bengal and Clive's reforms there and Robert Orme's History.
