Letter book (carbon copies), 1902-1904, of John M. Davies, Froodvale, relating to his office as high sheriff of co. Carmarthen. Some of the letters are in the hand of John Parry, Froodvale. Among the principal correspondents are D. E. Stephens, under-sheriff, D. E. Williams, Ivy Bush Hotel, Carmarthen, Leo Culleton (designer of the sheriff's banners), Charles H. Davies, Traws Mawr [in Newchurch], 1839 (a request for a valuation of the parish of Conwill [Elfed] for the purposes of a new road rate, the need for a regular electoral registration committee in the parish), Geo. Good, from Croft Cottage, near Carmarthen, 1839 (a request for a valuation of the parish of Nevern for the purposes of tithe apportionment), W[illiam] Howell, Pendine, 1839 (a meeting in connection with tithe apportionment), W. G. Hughes, Carmarthen, 1839 (requesting a valuation of timber on farms purchased by the writer), J. Also included in the group are a copy of a letter from D[avid] Davies to Morris Sayce, Kington, 1836 (comments on the terms of a lease); an undated draft letter from [David Davies] to [Sir David Davies?] ( the writer's opposition to an advance in the tithes of Talley); a statement, 1841, from Charles Bishop, Llandovery, to David Davies of the amount due from the latter for his proportion of the expense of tithe commutation in the parish of Llandilofawr, together with a receipt, 1842, for the same; and undated particulars of the tithe commutation of David Davies in respect of Talyfan and Mount in Llandilo[-fawr].
