Testator appoints Rev. David Archard Williams of Carmarthen, clerk, and Richard Morgan Davies of King Street, Carmarthen, testator's tenant, as trustees and executors. Bequeathes the following legacies: To his friend and relation, Mr. William Williams of the Abbey House in Kidwelly, co. Carm., £100. To Leonora Williams, eldest daughter of William Williams, £100, and to Arthur Stephens Williams, her eldest brother, £100. To Mary Jones (formerly of Machynlleth, but now living with testator as housekeeper), the daughter of his late brother, dec., £500 and £30 as temporary assistance until the interest of the legacy becomes payable to her, six silver spoons, six silver teaspoons, his Bible in two volumes, with notes by Rev. Henry Cox Mason, kept in his bookcase in the parlour, and her bed and bedclothes. To his cook, Rachel Jones, £50. To his servantman, David Cozens, £50. To Benjamin Brock, the elder of Brecon, and his wife, Eliza, the testator's daughter, £100. To each of their children, i.e. Hester, Sarah, Eliza, George, John and Henry, £100 each. Testator makes separate provision for William Brock, the eldest son of Benjamin Brock and Eliza, his wife. Directs that his house in Spilman Street, Carmarthen, and its furnishings, shall be cared for by Mary Jones. His household goods (except for those already bequeathed, and his mahogany book cases, which are to be left in the parlour as fixtures, his gold watches, chains and seals, his gold and silver snuff boxes, his ancient silver seal of office, and other objects kept as mantelpiece ornaments, all of which are to be reserved for future disposal) are to be sold along with his horses, carts, carriages, etc., to pay his debts and legacies. Devises his freehold properties in p. St Peter in c.b. Carmarthen, and in p's Abergwilly, Llangunnor, Llandefeylog, Llangain, Llanstephan, Llangunnock, Saint Clears, Mydrim Kilrhedin, Llanfihangel Ararth, Llanllony, Llanybyther and Llanfihangel Rhosycorn, co. Carm., to his trustees, in trust, to the use of Benjamin Brock, his grandson, the second son of the said Benjamin Brock the elder, and Eliza, his wife, with remainder to the use of Benjamin Brock's eldest son in tail male (other remainders specified) with the proviso that the said Benjamin Brock or whoever becomes entitled to the estate shall take the additional surname of Jones. Appoints the said Benjamin Brock as another executor when he attains the age of 21. Testator also mentions his clerk, Thomas Ley Johnson, and his partner, John Budden Jeffries. Will proved at PCC. Surrey, articled clerk. 2 Edward Drake Brockman of Hythe, Kent, esq. 3 Phillips Monypenny of the same, esq. Grant by 1 to 2 of an annuity of £37 charged on the estate and Demise by 1 to 3, as trustee, of the said estate for 100 years, for better securing the annuity to 2. Consideration: £400. Endorsed with a Notice, dated 23 June 1876, that the properties so charged, were conveyed to Sarah Brock of Abernant House, Aberdare, co. Glam., on trust for sale, by indenture of 7 Oct. 1785 (see no. 13); also endorsed with a Memorandum, dated 7 Sept. 1876, that by an indenture of 9 Aug. 1876, a farm called Gilfach, p. Llanfihangel Rhosycorn, co. Carm., being part of the properties conveyed herein were granted to James Beynon of Bwlchcoed, p. Llanfihangel ar arth, co. Carm.; further endorsed with a note that a memorial of the deed was enrolled in the Court of Chancery pursuant to an Act of Parliament, and that it was used in law suits in 1853 and 1855.

Consideration: £800. Endorsed with a Notice that the estate charged by the deed was conveyed to Sarah Brock on trust for sale by deed of 7 Oct. 1875 (no. 13).

Grant of an annuity of £75 by 1 to 2, charged on the estate, and Demise by 1 to 3, as trustee, of the estate for a term of 100 years for better securing the annuity to 2. Consideration: £800. Endorsed with the Notice and Memorandum as in no. 3.

[Note: Part of the Premises has been cut away so that the names of the parties and the date have been confirmed from the body of the deed and from the endorsement]. Mortgage by 1 to 3, with consent of 2, as protector of the settlement, of those parts of the estate which have not been sold under an Order in Chancery in law suits instituted for the administration of the estate and to which 1 is entitled in tail male or tail expectant on the death of 2, his father, and Assignment of a sum of £473.16.9 consolidated £3 per cent bank annuities standing to the credit of the law suits (further described), to secure £650 and interest. Attached: Certificate, dated 24 Oct. 1874, signed and sealed by James Warrack, the British Vice Consul in Chicago, stating that he has known Benjamin Brock Jones for several years when he was engaged at the Vice Consulate, and that he is also acquainted with his son George Brock Jones, who is executing this deed. Pre-nuptial Settlement of 1 and 2, whereby 1, with consent of 2, assigns to 3, her half share in a ...,

1 Maria Brown formerly of c.b. Carmarthen, now of Alton Barnes, Wiltshire, spinster. 2 Edward Edwards of Chelsea, Middlesex, gent. 3 Rev. Thomas Bevan, clerk, vicar of St Peter's Carmarthen, and archdeacon of St Davids, and James Rowlands of Carmarthen, esq. Pre-nuptial Settlement of 1 and 2, whereby 1, with consent of 2, assigns to 3, her half share in a £2,000 mortgage (dated 23 April 1845) of m's called Henfryn or Tyrhenfryn and Plaesypark, [p. Merthyr co. Carm.? - the location is not given] and certain securities (further recited) together with a sum of £1,792.10.5 £3 per cent consolidated bank annuities, to which 1 is entitled, in trust for the use of 1 and any children of the marriage. Attached: Memorandum, dated 1 June 1892, by James Rowlands, stating that Maria Brown's (later Edwards) moiety of the £2,000 mortgage had been assured to him by her settlement [i.e. the present deed] and after her death, he, as trustee, paid the persons entitled to her £1,000 half share, of which £600 was his own money and £400 was Elizabeth Brown's money. Endorsed: Release, dated 28 May 1892, whereby the two daughters of Maria Edwards viz. Elizabeth Emma Bandfield of 6 Vernon Terrace, New Southgate, Middlesex, widow, and Lucy Sarah Williams, wife of William Williams of 403 Park Lane, Macclesfield, Cheshire, surveyor of taxes (who is himself a party) release James Rowlands from the trusts of the settlement. The Release recites the deaths of Edward Edwards, 1 March 1865, Thomas Bevan (no date given), and Maria Edwards née Brown, 15 March 1892, who by will, dated 10 Sept. 1890, bequeathed her money, i.e. the £1,792.10.5 bank annuities, and the sum of £1,000 secured by the mortgage within mentioned, to her two aforementioned daughters equally. James Rowlands, as surviving trustee, has transferred the consolidated bank annuities and has paid the £1,000, so is now being released from the trusts of the settlement.

Bequeathes £700 to trustees to pay £21 annuity to William Hood of South Shields, co. Durham, mariner, first cousin to her late husband, Thomas Hood, and £2,000 for the maintenance and education of Elizabeth Bailey, daughter of Mrs Elizabeth Bailey of Chancery Lane, London. Other bequests to relations and others. Proved PCC.

Probate Will (will dated 29 May 1886) of George Thomas of c.b. Carmarthen, solicitor,

Testator appoints his brother in law, Thomas Travers Wood and his nephews, William Edward Davidson and Richard Macaulay Thomas, executors and trustees. Devises his house, i.e. 21 Picton Terrace, Carmarthen, in which he resides, his adjacent house and coach house in Union Street (occupied by his servant man) and other houses in the same street, i.e. Union Street, (occupied by Thomas Jones, mason), to his nephew, Richard Macaulay Thomas. Bequeathes his office furniture, fittings and his books to his nephew the said RMT. Devises the rest of his realty and personality to his said trustees, whom he directs shall out of the money arising from the sale, disposition and conversion of his residuary personality, and out of the money that shall belong to him at his death, pay his debts and funeral expenses an lay out the remainder in government securities, etc., and divide the income therefrom into six equal parts and pay as follows: to John Daniel Thomas (testator's brother) for life, then to JDT's wife, Mary; to Clare Jane Thomas (wife of the testator's brother William Henry Thomas) for life, then to WHT; the trustees are to deduct out of this share the premiums payable on the Insurance Policy on the life of the said WHT, which was taken out at the time of his marriage; to Rachel Thomas (testator's sister) for life, but she is always to account to the trustees for an annuity of £220 secured to her by the testator's bond, so that it may be deducted from this share; to Mary Anne Davidson (testator's sister) widow, for life; to Emily Higginson (testator's sister) for life; to Agnes Jane Wood (testator's sister and wife of Thomas Travers Wood, one of the trustees) for life, then to TTW for life. Further trust funds are set up for the testator's nieces and nephews. Testator directs that if his brother, William Henry Thomas should owe him money at his (i.e. testator's) death, then he is to be released from the same. Codicil, dated, 26 June 1889, whereby testator bequeathes money he has invested in the Law Union Fire and Life Insurance Company to his nephew, Richard Macaulay Thomas, and gives £500 to the Carmarthen Infirmary. Attached: Death Certificate for Thomas Travers Wood, who died on 28 Jan. 1908 at Glanmor Crescent, Swansea, aged 74, and two Notices, both dated 5 July 1897, to the Trustees stating that the estate and interest of Townshend Wood and Richard Aubrey Wood in the testator's residuary personal estate has been assigned to Hugh Bellingham and Percival Henry Grundy. Testator died 4 Sept. 1890.

Testatrix recites that, by virtue of an indenture of 1840 made between herself and her late husband, she has power of testamentary appointment over certain settled funds, from which she now bequeathes the following legacies, to Isabelle Fisher Warren, Ann Brown Wells and Katherine Edith Falls, her daughters, £500 each. To her friend, Louisa Morris, £200. To her son, Thomas Mitchell Rowlands, £50. To her grandchildren, Isabel Gertrude Ann Thomas, Marguerite May Neville, Gwendoline Lugel, Muriel Todd, Ethel Wells and Daisie Wells, £50 each. To her great grandchildren, Nancy Thomas and Betty Neville, £50 each. To Arthur Lloyd Davies, her late husband's dispenser, £10. The residue of her realty and personality is divided into four equal parts and disposed of as follows: to her daughter Isabella Fisher Warren; to her daughter Ann Brown Wells; to her daughter Katherine Edith Falls; to her executor and trustee, Richard Macaulay Thomas of Carmarthen, solicitor, together with £500, in trust, to invest and pay the income to her daughter Alice Thomas for life, then to her three aforementioned daughters equally. The daughters and their survivors are given power to appoint an additional and or new trustees if occasion arises. Testatrix died 17 Dec. 1899.

Will of Charles Cook Wells, formerly of Penally House, p. Penally, co. Pemb., now of Tenby House, Tenby, co. Pemb., esq. Testator desires to be buried at Penally. Bequeathes to Sarah Heloise Bonner, formerly Sarah Heloise Lyons of Cork, Ireland, a £30 annuity, which with the £30 left by the will of the late Captain Cook, will increase her annuity payable out of testator's estate to £60. To Mary Louisa Bonner, daughter of the said Sarah Heloise Bonner, a £30 annuity to commence from her mother's death, both annuities to be payable out of the testator's estates in p. Penally and in Tenby, co. Pemb. (properties not specified). Devises his estate to William de Grouchy Warren of Spilman Street, Carmarthen, esq., James David Rowlands of the same, surgeon, and Edward Hall of Taunton, Somerset, formerly a colonel in the East India Company, as trustees and executors, to raise, by mortgage or sale of the estate, sums of £6,000 and £5,000 as trust funds for the benefit of testator's only son, Charles Hugh Wells of Tenby House and his daughter in law, Ann Brown Wells and their children, with remainder to testator's only daughter, Selina Sophia Driberg, wife of William Charles Driberg of Barton under Needwood, Burton on Trent, remainder to her children. The trust funds are fully described. Bequeathes his household furniture, books, plate, etc., to his trustees for the sole use of the said Anne Brown Wells, for life, then to Charles Hugh Wells, remainder to the children. Bequeathes the medals of his late father and his father's portrait, the likeness of his late wife, his own portrait, medals, uniform and swords as heirlooms. The residue of his personality to his son Charles Hugh Wells. Codicil, dated 24 Aug. 1875, whereby testator appoints George Thomas of Carmarthen, solicitor, to be a trustee and executor in place of James David Rowland.
