Manuscripts and papers of John Matthews, senior, and John Matthews, junior, of Aberystwyth. -- They include a group of autograph letters of Henry Richard, written in his early days to his friend, John Matthews; manuscript and printed matter relating to Aberystwyth in the early part of the 19th century; letters and papers relating to the parliamentary election of 1868, when Mr Matthews acted as the agent of Mr E. M. Richards, the successful candidate for Cardiganshire; letters, papers and pamphlets concerning the Church Rate dispute in Aberystwyth; papers relating to the beginnings of the temperance cause in the Aberystwyth district; miscellaneous letters and papers, including some written by Thomas Charles Edwards and Ieuan Gwyllt in their early days, one letter by the former is in Latin; two diaries of John Matthews for 1861 and 1863.
