Correspondence

The file comprises letters, 1976-1980, mainly to the Secretary of the Committee, in typescript and handwritten form, including some appended information sheets and leaflets, together with carbon copies of letters sent. The letters relate to the organising of meetings and conferences, canvassing for affiliations and receipt of subscriptions, requests for information, collaboration with similar organisations involved in race relations work, the establishment of branches in Swansea and Cardiff and responses to newspaper articles and letters in the press. -- The correspondence is mainly with representatives of various major trades union organisations, the Trades Union Congress, the Wales Trades Union Congress, and several local Trades Union Councils in Wales. There are also letters from prominent politicians, members of parliament and the major political parties in Wales, especially the Labour Party, as well as from religious bodies and organisations specifically representing ethnic minorities.

Declarations and affiliations

The file comprises mainly affiliation slips, 1976-1978, from individuals and organisations affiliating themselves to the Committee, many of whom are not evidenced in the associated correspondence, together with fifty-five of the original declarations for the initial newspaper advertisement that subsequently led to the Committee's formation. The slips generally give names and addresses of those affiliating as well as the amounts subscribed. The file also includes some lists of relevant names and addresses.

Ephemera

The file comprises circulars, 1976-1979, concerning the original declaration against racism, resolutions, arrangements for forthcoming meetings and events, minutes of meetings, affiliation and attendance at conferences, together with itineraries for, and a report on, the Carnival Against Racialism. Some of the material is specifically concerned with the Cardiff branch, and also includes newsletters and leaflets from other organisations, particularly copies of Anti-Nazi News, the news-sheet of the Cardiff Anti-Nazi League.

Press cuttings

The file comprises press cuttings, 1977-1979, from both national and local newspapers, particularly of letters sent to the papers regarding immigration as well as articles regarding issues of racial integration. Also included are reports on the Committee's conferences, meetings and activities.
